I saw Secret Sunshine the other day and I have to say I was bored through most of the film. I get the film, and the actress' performance is certainly remarkable but it remained quite cold for me, and especially her acts of rebellion against being coaxed by the townspeople into a belief she could no longer sustain seemed mostly quite petty. I suspect that the same material if handled by someone of say Bergman's sensibility may have turned out a more intense film IMO. At 2.5 hours it was also quite stretched out and dissipated its power going that distance.

Amazon directly - Basically I have been banned for life for too many returns/refunds. Sorry but I am not paying full price for an item advertised as BRAND NEW when its come damaged - spoke to amazon each time this happened and THEY suggested a return or refund, I never begged them for it so by their recommendations I went ahead with it, no warnings just banned. Now, I recently ordered Watchdogs from them as a Prime User and its not arrived and emailed them and they are refusing to refund/replace now, so they have taken my £45 and £150 Giftcards I have bought - pretty awful for a company that says they will do anything to help customers.

Oh and I supplied photo proof every time an order arrived in poor condition.

Oh well - Ive spent thousands on Amazon, Id rather see that money go towards Play.com, DVDworldUSA and Ebay.

I am like you, if it is not 100 perfect it goes back. Just like my MoC Joan of Arc. I am sure the disc was fine but there was a black line on the artwork that is not on my friends copy. It is a glorious steelbook and the picture iconic so I complained and said I wanted a new copy and them to pay the return postage. They were only for giving me a 20% discount, I don't want money, I want what I paid for. In the end they refunded the $10 it cost for me to return. I have a horrible feeling though that the new copy may be the same, if they received a "damaged" batch. We shall see.

No appeal process, they won't even tell me why they think that I know anyone. I even went to the CEO's office and was basically told the same thing, sorry you're out of luck.

F**k eBay....
I remember you mentioning this, what an absolute pile of sh!t from eBay. How exactly do they know who you know in the "real world" ?

Thanks for the heads up! Was going to pick it up next month but after tax it was $62 even, so I pulled the trigger.

The Cassavetes set is one of the nicest things put out by Criterion. All five films are absolutely phenomenal.

Buy with confidence!

Oh wow that's petty - so frustrating, but it's like we are paying out ouroney so we should get what we are paying for.

A shop doesn't ban you for retiring isn't clothes that don't for or are wrong etc so why should they be different online.

Oh well lol

It sucks too. I hadn't used eBay a lot lately but it was nice to have it as an option for some steals here and there. The best part, is that her cousin got his account back with a "No Selling" restriction, so he can still buy. I can't do ANYTHING.

They claim they have an appeal process for any account terms but the rep and the CEO's office both said there's no way to prove I'm not going to share my account; so while they have an appeals process they flat out said I cannot prove their allegations as false. They also won't give me any info on why they think that I'm at risk. I've never shared any of my accounts for any sites with anyone. Even my wife has her own accounts for everything. The person in question has never used my PC and I honestly can't tell you the last time they were even in my neighborhood, they live well over an hour away from me.

I just ordered this and "House," can't wait to watch them! Anyone have anything to say about "Shock Corridor?" It's also on sale for sub-20, but I've never really heard anyone talk about it and the review doesn't make it sound that interesting.

The Four Feathers is a paint-by-numbers story of redemption. I saw it on TCM a few years ago and it didn't do much for me.

Lola Montes is a film every one should see at least once for Ophuls' direction alone. The story may not sound terribly exciting but it's executed very, very well. Film critic Andrew Sarris called it the greatest film ever made.

NYMPHOS!!

Greatest. Movie. Line. Ever.

God, I love Sam Fuller.

Shock Corridor is brilliantly wicked social critique and satire. Throw in some camp and humor and you have one hugely entertaining film that is layers deep.

I'm not a big fan of Shock Corridor, but I think The Naked Kiss is great.

Awesome! I'll try to check them out soon.

I'm more than likely going to make Still Walking my next Criterion watch. I have not seen any Kore-eda films yet.

I am with you; I haven't seen any Kore-eda films either. I keep wanting to pick up Still Walking, but I always put it off in order to buy a more wanted title.

Speaking of which, I am going back and forth about ordering the Cassavetes set. I have Amazon points that would cover it, but I was holding onto them in hopes that they will have a sale on more Criterion titles soon (like they did last summer).

I'm sorry as I know this has been asked dozens of times but can someone provide me the email address for a disc replacement from Criterion?

I tried to watch Kiss Me Deadly last night and around the 01:19:49 it freezes until about 01:27:00. Tried different players and the same thing.

First time I ever had an issue with a Criterion disc.

Thanks!

I wasn't really interested until I read a little bit more about it the other night and now it has shot to the top of my "see sooner than later" films.

Coupon issuance is somewhat random. It's not even clear whether they send coupons out to everyone at the same time, or at different times to different people. I used to get a coupon in email about once every 3-4 weeks (that is, a "usable" coupon; some coupons would be for specific items or specific classes of items that I didn't care about).

I haven't gotten any by email in a dog's age. For the last several months, I'd get snail-mail with four coupons, two of which are useful ("20% off any one item). Of the other two, one's for a discount on the purchase of a Nook, which I don't want; the other is equally useless from my perspective.

My local B&N allows the coupons, even when applied to special sale items. And the good thing (which I think is a company-wide thing, not just this store) is that if you have a 20%-off-one-item coupon, it's applied against the most expensive item in your stack.

I've never tried using multiple coupons on a single purchase, so I don't know if my store would allow that. And while there are a couple of cashiers who know me, and might be willing to split my transaction into separate orders, I've never worried about it. It's not like I won't be back another time to use other coupons.

Hopefully, the release for Vengeance is Mine is from a new source. I found the Eureka MOC release to be problematic. The daylight scenes look good, but the darker scenes are plague by a distortion in the transfer/elements. Hard to describe but the dark scenes look as if they were filmed through a window with semi transparent stains on it.

Big fan of the movie and plan to upgrade...
