Thanks. I guess I should wait, but I'm tempted to buy the ones I want now!

Last night I took out the DVD of Ace in the Hole (Disc 1), and noticed it had a fairly substantial scratch on it. This lead me to check the DVDs in several of my other combo packs, and I was disappointed to see that they're all scratched. This included: Great Beauty, Jules and Jim, Breaking the Waves, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Ace in the Hole. It looks like the issue is that DVD 1 rubs against the nub in the center of DVD 2.

Anyone else noticed this?

I only have The Great Beauty and King of The Hill. Checked both and they are ok. I looked and the nub from DVD 2 is not touching DVD 1.

Default Just Curious about Criterion 1/2 Off Sales...

Does anyone know if the Criterion 1/2 Off Sales at Amazon, B&N and Criterion have actual Dates? Do they happen the same time every year?

I coulda sworn (@#%$!!!) that Criterion itself had Two (2) a Year(?) One in the Summer and one just before Christmas.

I emailed Criterion and got a fairly generic response with no dates at all. I also found a short thread over at their FaceBook page and there's no response from Criterion, just folks speculating.

Unfortunately yes, find it symptomatic of Criterion's Dual Format packaging and my recent purchases all have DVD's with scratches and scuffs and in the case of Jules And Jim I actually returned because one of the DVD's had a crack at the hub. Otherwise I just offset in my mind that I'm not likely to watch the DVD so as long as the BD is fine and works I can live with imperfect DVD's in a set.

I wish somehow the sale dates could be put as a permanent sticky at the top of each page

The Hidden Fortress deserves to go to the very top of your stack. It is a stellar release. I also owned the DVD, but I don't even have words to describe how phenominal the blu-ray is. Don't wait!

Criterion's flash sales generally occur in Feb and again in September/early October.

I just tried on .com but the "international shipping" options were all USPS so I'll list on .ca

Soon. I bought the new The Man with No Name Trilogy (with the remastered The Good, the Bad and the Ugly) and The Outsiders: The Complete Novel Blu-rays during lunch break today, so I'm going to take a short break from the Criterion titles.

I've seen The Hidden Fortress several times before, though, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how the new Blu-ray transfer stacks up to my old DVD.

I have such fond memories of watching those when they first aired on PBS!

I doubt I'll ever see them released on blu, so I should track them down on DVD.

The exact dates aren't confirmed until a week or two before the sale begins. I've never seen the sale dates confirmed this far in advance. Speculation says first or second Tuesday in July.
