I purchased this set during the February Criterion flash sale, so it took me over three months to get thru the 25 films. If I didn't try to fit TCM recordings and other blu's into my schedule, I probably would have finished a month ago.

Overall, it was one of the greatest blu-ray experiences of my life. I wish my first experience with the Bond films had been to watch all of them chronologically like I did with this series. Although, the experience is significantly different since several actors have protrayed Bond. One of the reasons why Zatoichi is so great is that you get to see Shintaro Katsu evolve as an actor over the course of the series.
Every couple of years, I revisit all of the James Bond 007 films in chronological order, and I always have a blast doing so. I talk a good game when it comes to classic movies, foreign cinema, and under-recognized Criterion titles, but, if someone were to point a gun at me and force me to give up all of the Blu-rays in my collection except for 23 titles, then I would choose my 23 Bond films to keep.

I am looking forward to watching the Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman set, because I've already got it on the shelf. I have a few other titles that I want to catch up watching first, but I know that I'll have a great time going through these Zatoichi films in order.

You must do it no the mobile site and you must be a member. I will buy the rest during the Criterion Flash sale. Once again thank you for the help and hope you can take advantage of the code
Thanks! I picked up Billy Wilder's Ace in the Hole for $15.99.

+1 for Sweet Smell of Success. Everything about it is great, Curtis and Lancaster are great; the razor-sharp dialogue, memorable lines, MacKendick, Lehmen, Odetts, James Wong Howe and New York City all come together brilliantly. I think the film is perfect and there isn't one frame or word of dialogue I would change. I first got turned on to SSoS by the movie Diner, where it is referenced comically. If I had to choose just one Criterion, I think SSoS would be it.

If you have something else you want to buy, coupon K9M4E3D works the same way. I was able to get Like Someone In Love and Life Aquatic for $15.99 each (separate transactions).

Great purchase!

If you want to see more films with Jan Sterling after that, then check out the Olive Films Blu-ray set, Film Noir Collection: Volume 1, because she starred in both Union City and Appointment with Danger. She also starred in Mystery Street, which is available on Warner DVD, and in the Humphrey Bogart film, The Harder They Fall.
Sometime after the next payday, I'm planning to buy the Warner Archive DVD of Caged (1950), the women's prison movie that starred Jan Sterling and the lovely Eleanor Parker (the baroness from The Sound of Music), and Agnes Moorehead.

I like Jan Sterling. She has a unique "trashy allure" in all of her films that I've seen. She is at her best in Ace in the Hole, and she matches Kirk Douglas every step of the way.

Sweet Jesus! Now you just made me pick up The Hidden Fortress as well. No man can resist $15.99 Criterions without any hassle of coupons and cashiers.

Thanks! I'm a huge Billy Wilder fan, and although I haven't seen Ace in the Hole yet, I'm sure to like it. Double Indemnity, Sunset Boulevard ,and The Apartment are phenomenal, and I loved Kirk Douglas in Paths of Glory. I even liked some of Wilder's comedies, like The Seven Year Itch and Some like it Hot, although Stalag 17 didn't do much for me.

Billy Wilder was in a class all his own, and he excelled at every film genre that he tackled. I own all of the existing Region A Blur-rays of his films, and I wish that Criterion would release The Lost Weekend.

I'm looking forward to the upcoming Kino Lorber releases of two of his films.

Awesome, thank you. I just made another account too so I could get all four films I was debating getting: The Killing, Sweet Smell of Success, Night of the Hunter, kiss me deadly. Fingers crossed the second account works, the orders went through and are preparing to ship.

Yes, I just used a different cc and email and everything seemed to work, orders went through and also received my membership email. I'm hoping to get shipping confirmation sometime today, and if everything goes through I may even make some more.

How long does the trial membership last? My regular membership expires this week and ideally, I would use a trial membership for the B&N July sale.

I'm rather proud of the fact that I can appreciate with equal fervor an amazingly crafted artistic film like The Turin Horse and a screwball comedy like His Girl Friday.
I didn't live through it, nor have I really read anything specific about the topic, but my understanding is that there was a bit of s**t talking done about American cinema - particularly by Godard. I don't know if others partook in the bashing. The quotes attributed to Kael were written at the time that the cinema of the French New Wave had become extremely fashionable and popular moviegoers (kind of hard to believe) were following suit and demanding more of what she called "high culture" cinema.

She was quite a champion of L'avventura, but she thought La Notte was pretty vapid. She also spoke fondly of Godard's Weekend, so it doesn't seem that she was averse to art house cinema. Like I said, I do sorta agree with her that more art is apparent in certain films she describes as "kitschy" than there is in some of the art films of the 60's. I do not think, however, that this was her absolute opinion. She might have wrote that piece as sort of a lashing back at the aforementioned trend of dismissing everything that came before it as trash.

Great! So I ordered Ace in the Hole and Tess using the coupon codes, total price (I'm a member) with tax and shipping, $34.22. That's two more titles off my Criterion wish list. I then cancelled my Amazon pre-order of All That Heaven Allows and added that to my wish list. ATHA was $27.98 with the pre-order price, so for $6 more, I got two movies instead of one.

I've been noticing that the pre-order pricing on Amazon doesn't always work out to the best deal, at least for Criterions. Very often I see price drops shortly after release date that are lower than the lowest pre-order price, so the pre-order benefit is mostly for those people who must have a day one release. On the other hand, I also pre-ordered Kismet (a Warner Archive title) for $15.39, which is a decent price for Warner Archive blu rays.

Many thanks to whomever posted the B&N codes.

I've added 42 titles to my collection this year and only 4 of them were purchased from Amazon. 2 of those were Masters of Cinema titles, 1 was a British ITV release, and the 4th was a CC OOP title (Leon Morin, Priest.)

point is... for me, at least, the competition has caught up with Amazon and if it weren't for special titles, I wouldn't buy anything there any more. I can usually always get a better deal elsewhere.
