Agreed. At the very least La Strada and Juliet of the Spirits should receive the proper blu-ray treatment.

1. Jacques Tati Box Set - All but confirmed in the New Year's Day puzzle.
2. Harold Lloyd Talkie Box Set - Lloyd's daughter mentioned such a set was being prepared in an interview earlier this year.
3. The Hitchcock Nine Box Set - Possibly an Eclipse release? The Lodger and Downhill being added to iTunes shows these films haven't been forgotten. Though this could end up being the traditional first quarter Hitchcock release for 2015, unless they do a stand alone release of Sabotage or Young and Innocent.
4. Ingmar Bergman's Faith Trilogy Upgrade - Entirely speculative, but an HD transfer of Through A Glass Darkly was recently added to iTunes, and two Bergman releases per year seems to be the standard.
5. World Cinema Project Vol. 2 - Could be a new December tradition? There are certainly enough films on Hulu for at least one more set.
The Hitchcock 9 are still touring the U.S. in theaters, so, I doubt we'll see this until next year...and it better be a blu-ray box set!

I hope so.

By the way, another Chaplin film before the year is up seems almost guaranteed. I'm assuming The Kid will be the one.

Default Criterion Collection Discussion

I would actually like an Alphaville release. I saw it at a screening this year and enjoyed it. Would definitely revisit it.

Also, The Kid would be an awesome release.

Predictions:

La Strada Blu
Trouble in Paradise Blu
Tootsie
A Matter of Life and Death
Tati Box

And the extra prediction that Tati Box comes out September 23rd, the day after my birthday, which would be just so so great.

Think Alphaville is a Studio Canal title. Criterion lost the rights to release it years ago.

Some of the early Hitchcocks are similarly hindered, if I'm not mis-recollecting what I read several months back.

Thanks for the info, even a studio canal release would be nice for that movie. Just get it on bluray.

Haha I'm surprised there are no dogme films in the collection - very deserving.

Would be so exciting :-)

I dunno. Seems to me that having Dogme films on Blu-ray, and from Criterion no less, would be kind of missing the whole point of the Dogme movement.

No it wouldn't. The movement laid out certain guidelines to be followed, but nowhere did it say the films had to look poor or anything. I believe some of the later Dogme films were shot with HD handhelds even. Most of the guidelines weren't followed to a tee anyway, going back to Festen/The Celebration, so it's kind of an imperfect movement to me. I'd say a label like Criterion would be the ideal place to handle Dogme films. There are obvious source limitations so I don't see it happening.

Fair point. But I was going on the philosophy behind the movement. The films didn't need to look poor, but one could argue that Blu-ray being the current (setting aside 4K for the moment, since it's not really widespread) state of the art in home video technology is contrary to Dogme's philosophy regarding the over-reliance of excessive technology.

I'd love to see them release THE TENANT too but I've never heard any hint that they actually have it. Anyone heard anything solid or is this just wishful thinking?

I agree. Perhaps in November. I'm guessing the Tati Collection will be in November also.

I sort of have a feeling that the Tati set won't be released until next year and this November we'll get The Harold Lloyd collection confirmed by his granddaughter or great-granddaughter.
