There is definite truth in this statement. There was a period when Criterion would pick and choose whether a film got a standard dvd release or a blu-ray release. It seems to me that the films during this period, that only got a dvd release, have been making their way to blu-ray at a much more slow pace.

There is a scene in Mannequin that is an intentional homage to Charlie Chaplin and Paulette Goddard in Modern Times.

The scene where Kim Cattrall is modeling a fur coat for Andrew McCarthy is taken from a similar scene in Modern Times where Goddard is modeling a fur coat for Chaplin.

People troll with Mannequin every month, so I would love it if Criterion retaliated by releasing Mannequin 2.

Criterion could release the second Mannequin movie as a supplementary feature. They could probably fit both movies on one disc without sacrificing picture quality.
