It's Polanski purging the Manson murders through film. But if you know the play, then you should know what to expect.

And while I'd love MD, Criterion still hasn't even hinted that it's coming, so there was really no reason to expect it before eraser head, which had been confirmed for a while now.

Pretty much all my Criterion BDs have english subs. They aren't in the menu though, but they are there. Che, though, only has subs for the Spanish parts, which is frustrating.

The real highlight of the Eraserhead release is of course the collection of short films though by far. Anyway, I'm in for that movie and the Polanski film (Macbeth). Also am really glad to see the Fassbinder upgrade too. Superb and exciting announcements!
First of all, congratulations!

Second of all, Criterion will wait until next year to release Mulholland Dr. They know that all of the Lynch-geeks in the world (and I count myself as well) will need to buy it immediately, instead of waiting another seven months for the next B&N half-price sale. Therefore, I predict an announcement of Mulholland Dr. in October (making it a January release.)

Very interested in The Innocents, but someone will have to explain the appeal of Eraserhead to me! Saw it once on a double bill with Freaks. Once was more than enough. (I bought a copy of Freaks though!)

Okay.

If they aren't in the menu, how do I activate them?

Just because you dont like it doesnt mean the entire world must watch it once. Different strokes for different folks is all I can say here. Im getting that and the Innocents

I'm in for THE INNOCENTS day 1 and maybe all the rest during a sale.

Very excited to see what Criterion can do with the 4k scan. The last b/w film on blu-ray to really, really wow me was Persona. I'm almost expecting the same with THE INNOCENTS.

Subtitle button on your remote, most likely.

So with Eraserhead out and Mulholland Drive next, do you think there may just be a third Lynch film that might come to Criterion? Which one would it be? My guess would be The Elephant Man. After that, I'd LOVE to see The Straight Story.

Criterion going back to separate BD and DVD releases doesn't mean they listened to the opinions, it means they listened to their wallet. Number of people who buy it for the dvd must have lowered as a result of the dual-format (higher price for a disc you don't need), while the number of those who buy it for the BD stayed constant (same price with more discs).
It was the wrong move at this point. Studios are moving away from that.

Studios are moving away from that now, but they were still doing it at the time that Criterion made that move.

As an example, back in February, HBO's Game of Thrones Season 3 release included Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital Copy. Last week, their release of True Detective Season 1 included only Blu-ray and Digital Copy.

The best part of criterion announcement days is when people tell us how underwhelmed they are!

I am not sure. You can access them via the "subtitles" button on your Blu-ray remote.

In for all but Eraserhead. I've seen Polanski's Macbeth, but it was five years ago and I was a sixteen year old high school brat who didn't pay enough attention. The rest sound particularly fascinating, though I've not seen them. Ali has been on my Hulu queue for some time though.

Well, The Innocents is the only one for me, I think.

But that's OK, I have plenty of titles to catch up on.

I was away for a while, so it's good to return online to see the announcements.

The Innocents is the only one that really jumps out at me, and it'll probably be a day one purchase. I loved that movie on DVD, and I know that the 4K restoration will probably be incredible.

I like Polanski's Macbeth quite a bit. I have the HDX digital copy on Vudu, but it doesn't look so hot - if Rosemary's Baby is any indication, Criterion's Blu-ray will be a huge improvement. It's interesting how one of the producers was Playboy - we get a gratuitous nude scene of Lady Macbeth.

I guess this would made a good double feature with Throne of Blood.

I don't know what the BFI release is sourced from but it's fantastic.

This one will definitely not disappoint.

I just finished watching Roeg's "Don't Look Now" and I am praying that the Criterion rumors end up being true. The film is fantastic!

It is, without a doubt, one of the greatest mystery / horror films since the days of Hitchcock. Creepy as hell!
