TCM is showing it at the beginning of July so you better believe that my DVR is set.

Heads up that TCM will be showing (from The Criterion Collection) Black Moon, Foreign Correspondent, and Journey to Italy, on July 3.

That's bizarre. A friend from the U.S sent me a blu-ray and I sent one bac and it only cost us $12-$14 each between the Us and Australia. $60 for one blu-ray from the US to Canada? Very weird.

I actually tried to use my Canadian CC but it wanted a registered zip code.

Very true, they are only there as a guide, I use them in that sense. I look for trends in either the praise or criticism. I've watched some "classics" with my film club and hated them. As we now say "each to their own"

Looking at the prices before on the USPS website, if you send a parcel priority express mail then it can cost around the $60 mark. Allow a few extra days and it is $20.

Well it was several films, but almost $60 seemed ridiculous. I can see $20, but jeez.

Just watched L'Eclisse on Blu Ray from NetFlix. A truly unique and incredible film. Some of the best black and white images I have seen. I may have to pick up my own copy at some point.

Mediahint costs money now
And as Clare said, you can't just use a canadian credit card because they want a zipcode.
I tried to use mine with a zipcode and it denied it stating that it didn't match the credit card info.

You can get a vanilla mastercard for $25 and just change it to a US card though, its pretty easy to do

I think it's my favorite film in Antonioni's trilogy. The BD looks stellar!

Nice to see some actual discussion about the films in here instead of endless discussion about cases and digipacks and shipping, etc.

Haven't watched my blu of it yet. I'm still partial to L'avventura and possibly Red Desert. The images in the former are unforgettable and I love the use of color and haze if the latter.

What are people's thoughts on Il Sorpasso? I haven't seen it but it intrigues me.

I didn't get as much as I had hoped from it, but there is some lovely cinematography. It's a pretty ideal summer movie. Some of the writing I've read on it post viewing has convinced me that it'll be worth another go down the road.

It's a great road movie and one of the most surprising films of the year, in my opinion. That being said, I was a little letdown with the ending. Sure, it worked, but I would have done something entirely different.

Robert Shaw was in Jaws, not Rod Steiger. Or am I misreading your post?

I think she's mixing up Roy Scheider and Rod Steiger.

I've had an active hulu subscription many times over the past few years so I can confirm this method works:

I finally got around to watching Koyaanisqatsi from the Qatsi Trilogy set which I blind bought during the November B&N sale. Wow. This is pure cinema. It's a film absent of actors, dialogue, plot, and is stripped down to the bare essentials: visuals and music. Ron Fricke's cinematography is stunning and there are so many incredible, awesome, memorable shots. The manipulation of speed and editing are brilliant, not to mention fairly entertaining. The score by Philip Glass is one of the best I've ever heard and elevates the hypnotic imagery. I was apparently a fan of Glass before I even knew it, as I had previously heard the excerpt used by Zack Snyder from this movie in Watchmen and loved listening to that track "Pruit Igoe & Prophecies" over and over. Koyaanisqatsi does have an experimental documentary feel but to call it that feels wrong and doesn't quite do the film justice. There is a definite message there, but since there is no dialogue (ie talking heads, narration) and the organization of the images is such that the meaning can be slightly different to every person (no hitting over the head with trite editing), the film is more of an experience, and an important one at that. It's so strange to see our life from an almost alien angle, and director Godfrey Reggio really captured something about humanity and our daily existence in my opinion, and it stuck with me. This is one of those films I feel everyone should see before they die. It is a masterpiece, and I don't pull that word from my film vocabulary regularly.
