£11-25 isn't a huge loss to me either cause I've never been let down and if I am I can resell at same price.

I can't be bothered with (1)hassle of finding American credit card for Netflix and I just find streaming films harder to get into mood for or enjoy, I find it easier to enjoy and get into the mood of film when it's a physical disc.

I had UK netflix and it was really crap for films and lacked any decent ones, and used love film which was better but they kept messing up my rental discs and the service was appauling, and can't try amazon now as I'm perm banned from them lol.

Pin suppose everyone does things differently. If you are strapped for cash or worried then rent, it doesn't bother me I was just saying don't be scared to blind buy to find new stuff on Criterion, (2)cause majority of the films their catalogue are incredible.
(1)You don't. Type the word Hola into Google, I have access to every Netflix going.
(2) Please don't take this the wrong way but you seem to buy everything, love everything. The majority of the films in the collection are not incredible, quite a few are great, some are kak.

I won't go into detail but one visual in particular is freaking fantastic. Overall it's very solid visually and not at all dull but I don't know about spectacular.

Blind buys don't come much safer than Anatomy of a Murder. Its an interesting story, great cast (from top to bottom), it's right up there with Laura as one of Premingers' best and you've even got a cool Saul Bass title sequence.

What's not to like.

Yeah, Anatomy of a Murder was one that I couldn't remember. I love jazzy scores. Also agree with you on how great a film it is.

That is your opinion, I am a huge film fan and I can fid a predication in many films. So what if I buy a lot? I only have 150 or so, that in my eyes is poor and many have more than me.

I do have autism so maybe this is just one of my obsession, but I find a lot of happiness when watching cinema and I think cinema can be incredible and such a great way to escape or learn new things. Great films make me feel emotions apt hat are so overwhelming and it's addictive, I can watch a single film on repeat many times, I did requiem for a dream 10 times in a row no breaks.

But seriously what's wrong with me loving every film I buy? What's wro with finding appreciation in film, even of a certain element is weak, there are so many components to a film that as I said if it's crap there will always be something that makes it worth watching, even if it's for a 5 minute scene.

On a similar note I'd recommend Elevator To The Gallows.

As for "classical"-style music, though OOP there are few that fit that bill quite as perfectly as Contempt.

Ah getting me all excited now, I love Bass' work from his poster work, to his architecture design to his film scores. Phase IV was a brilliant film!

:-)

Bass was so talented in many areas, and it's a shame people are not as educated about his life and career more, his poster designs and film intros overshadow even better work :-)

That explains a lot to me now, thanks

As for you loving everything you buy, including blind buys, that to me is highly unusual. It not wrong in any way, just unusual and certain not meant as offensive.

I just love cinema :-) and I avoid genres I know I dislike (westerns etc). I am terrible though as I'd rather buy a. New film than get food, or I'd watch films and forget to eat haha, who needs food when you can digest a film :-) I used to make MP3 versions of films so I could listen to them at school... I'm obsessed haha!

I just have a varied taste and can adapt to each film I suppose... But seriously if you came round my house and I started talking/showing my films, you'd be begging to leave, I can't shut up and can't stop examining them and enjoying the artwork etc haha Criterions are so beautiful :-)

I wish they sold a fragrance that smelt of Criterions lol ... :-)

I'm trying to think of a film I blind bought and was disappointed by but im finding it really hard lol >.<

(Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Vladimir, Preisner, etc etc etc)

Got stuff like The Leopard to watch still and not sure what it features, also got Solaris (Bach) and got all Bergman film in collection (more bergman needs to be on bluray btw!!!!!)...

Thanks
My recommendations are:
  • Anything Nino Rota
    Beauty and the Beast
    Harold and Maude
    Nashville
    Sweet Smell of Success
Weekend (2011) [even though there's no official soundtrack release - the songs chosen are excellent complements to the moments onscreen]

I agree that it strikes me as odd when someone praises everything. I don't think someone can really LOVE everything. Even people that are pleasant and agreeable will, with regularity, run into things that just didn't strike a chord with them.

I've given Owl grief (In a good natured way) because everything he recommends seems to be in some way, his favorite. (Favorite movie, favorite BD release, favorite DVD release etc), and while his reviews are always intelligent and well written, I have to tell myself to take them with a grain of salt. There are a few films that he's raved about that I wasn't impressed with.

There's nothing wrong with loving cinema as both an escape and an art form but when I see that you love everything out there and don't knock anything (even in a well written, sited kind of way), I really wonder if you're a person I should be even listening to when you post a review. A person that loves everything and dislikes nothing is almost someone that I'd consider having no taste or true opinion. (Not trying to be insulting but I honestly can't think of another way to put it).

Thankfully there are a lot of good people around here, some with tastes similar to mine, others so far into the "art house" films they'd need to take 2 buses and a train just to get within site of my tastes but it works out that way in the end. Thanks to the mixed opinions I've discovered films like Branded to Kill, The Rules of the Game or Tokyo Story; films that I felt truly expanded my horizons, opened new doors to things I never would've considered before and even introduced me to directors that had it not been for this forum I never would have discovered! (Seijun Suzuki, Jean-Pierre Melville and Basil Dearden for example)

Default The Organizer

Does anyone have any thoughts on The Organizer? I love Mastroianni in 8.5, La Dolce Vita, Divorce Italian Style and La Notte. Im hearing constantly that this is a completely different character for him. Im all for a blind buy, have done it many times before but there are so many I want during this B&N sale and not enough money to cover them all lol 😜😜😜 just need some opinions.

Text has the disadvantage of no tone of voice or body language. Context by itself can often be opaque. Still, I was a bit disheartened when some people took my calling Polaroid a "Philistine" for not liking Westerns a bit too seriously (and I even used a smiley!). It was ameliorated by Polaroid taking it in the spirit it was intended.

Well, from my perspective, Videodrome was the first really top-notch movie that Cronenberg made. His previous films had their pluses, but they also had their minuses. Not that you won't like them, but they just aren't as good as the two you've seen already.
