I just watched "Seconds" for the first time over the weekend. I had recorded it from TCM to decide if it would be something I'd like to own.
I really liked it. Others have compared it to an episode of the Twilight Zone, and I would agree. It is the best work by Rock Hudson and John Randolf that I have seen to date. There were several other actors in it that surprised me and also did a great job.
My only dissappointment was
[Show spoiler]the bacchanalia scene. I thought it was unnecessary and that it went too far. But maybe that's just me. It seemed out of place since the woman he was with was from "The Company". It's like she was deliberately opening a powder keg in him, only to try to put a lid on it later.

It may be a future purchase for me, but right now I have several others that I am looking at for the sale. I'm awfully glad I saw it, and I thank everyone who recommended it on this site.

NEED this on Bluray ASAP (cough cough Criterion!)

It has been released in Japan (along with other Theo Angelopoulos films), and i think it includes English subtitles!

According to this site it's Region A, but you have to confirm about subtitles. I'm not so sure.

edit: Sorry, I guess it doesn't.

Have never seen a Theo Angelopoulos film, though I'm Greek!

people do like to play along when others post questions like this, but you own too many titles to make it easy. why don't you give about a half dozen or so that you are considering and then it will be easier to peruse what you already own in order to make a recommendation.

Ballad of Narayama doesn't get talked about a lot. What's that one like? It's a cheaper title too so I wouldn't feel as risky about blind buying that one.

I'm still on the fence about blind-buying Breaking the Waves. I am not a Lars Von Trier fan one bit, but this film is supposedly one of his best movies. What should I do? I think I might have to watch this one first because I feel its too risky to blind-buy.

While I'm at it, could anyone shed some more light on these?:

Lord of the Flies, Beauty and the Beast, Revanche, The Uninvited

Lord of the Flies and Uninvited sound right up my alley, but I'm not sure about them. Beauty and the Beast seems like it's a classic. And Revanche I just haven't heard much about, but maybe that's a good thing?

He's one of my favourite directors, if you want great performances, great soundtrack, powerful imagery and emotions - go for it.

If you really ain't sure, just watch online, but if you watch non criterion version the quality isn't amazing, but then if you love then you'll be blown away with the new transfer like I was.

beauty and Beast for me, was incredible, only seen with philip glass' orchestra. It's a really magical film and some great special effects, such a great director.

I loved lord of the flies, the savages and had some shocking moments that I wasn't expecting.

a fair point, but I actually don't have any specific in mind.
basically I've now bought every movie that I had seen previously, anything else
is a blind buy

I'm open to anything but would probably prefer
50s/60s mystery/suspense.

Revanche is a great film! It once came up in conversation and a few people commented that it is their favorite CC title of this century. (I'd rank it second behind Blue is...) one poster who pops in every now and then even likes it enough to have it as his avatar. (pic of a dude sitting on a bench ) Don't know if that helps at all. It's a very accessible film, too, so it has that going for it as well.

Charade - 60s mystery and suspense
Eyes without a Face - 60s mystery
Following - mystery

Just some from my collection that I would recommend.

I have major respect for anyone who can smile, chuckle, giggle, laugh, bust a gut, or anything similar in regards to Harold Lloyd and his humor.

I hate him and find him painful to watch.

Revanche is one of the masterpieces of the 21st century. It's a shame that not many people have seen it.

Beauty and the Beast was decent, The Uninvited was okay, but I thought Lord of the Flies was terrible.

I went to youtube to watch the trailer so that I could come back and tell you that I feel it to be spoiler free. That is not the case, IMO. Avoid the trailer. See the film!
