I agree. Just having fun.

Aw well shoot. I think I just have to go with what I myself am interested in. I do appreciate the recommendations though!

I think this usually happens when you ask for opinions-you usually end up in the same place as before you asked. My advice: Read Lord of the Flies-It's an easy read- and if you like it the film is a very good adaption.

Im not America so screw you B&N sale.

I just had my fun with BIOT sale just finished... got 35 awesome films from them though everything was £11 except for boxsets which were a little more.

Got a lot of stuff I really wanted and got some upgrades cheap so saved a bit of cash

Oh it since being able to enjoy Criterion sales in UK lol, Amazon never had them!

Its nice hearing everyones opinions though especially if one person hates it and another loves it - fascinating to hear the different sides and how a film can change between people :P

Yeah, pretty much. I do want to read the book even though I'm not a big reader, but I always have this conflict and usually reading the book ruins the movie for me. I do like books but I prefer movies. And then there's always the question of should I experience the stronger version of the story first, or second?

I'm just not sure why you are limiting yourself? I though you were going to get like 40 or 50?

No easy answer. I saw the film first and loved it then sought out the book and it only reinforced, to me, how good the film was. My next advice: flip a coin.

Pretty much confirmed we will be getting a L'Avventura upgrade. Possible adding Les Blank's Hot Pepper as well.

Another one (for me, anyway), is Tran Anh Hung's The Scent of Green Papaya. I think you could take any single frame of this film, print it out, and hang it on your wall.

Also love to see Turin Horse in the collection, I have it on Bluray though so better than nothing !
The Cinema Guild edition is perfectly good. No need for Criterion to do it. I wouldn't mind seeing Criterion tackle some of Tarr's other films, though, particularly Satantango and Werckmeister Harmonies. I'm not sure if Facets have the rights to all of his pre-Turin sewed up, though.

Just ordered the following:

All That Heaven Allows
Band of Outsiders
Charade
Cul-De-Sac
Gomorrah
In the Mood for Love
In the Realm of the Senses
Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion
Kagemusha
Letter Never Sent
A Man Escaped
Naked Kiss
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Red River
Rififi
Shock Corridor
Still Walking
Sweet Smell of Success
Wages of Fear
Zatoichi

Had to split it into 3 orders since I was using giftcards in varying amounts and payments are limited to 3 giftcards. My CC will be charged a remaining balance of less than $16 total, which is nice!

On the 22nd I'll use my remaining giftcard balance for:

Insomnia
On the Waterfront
Pickpocket

That'll take care of me until the September releases...

Good to know. I followed a recommendation from you once before (for Stagecoach) and loved it. I'll keep this one in mind too (even though your post wasn't directed at me). Reading the review on this site, it looks like a film I might like.

Just put it a request for my local store to hold the following:

La Notte
L'eclisse
Weekend (Godard)

All three are blind buys, can't wait to dive in!

thanks, and to the person who mentioned Charade, and finally to the person who mentioned Seventh Seal thanks too (it's in my collection, don't know how I don't have it entered here)
