As much as I'd love to, I doubt they'd accept them due to being region A, plus I spent thousands on these so would suck little >.< plus I doubt many people in Lincoln would appreciate them :/

i don't even know if they are keeping our local library open due to funding cuts.

And NO WAY IN HELL would I donate to the uni library, most students have no respect >.<!

I would feel better selling them on to a new collector at a lower price to what I paid for so they can get into the collection and enjoy the films

Yah I can trust someone, but delivery is crazy usually, I mean Ebay its £2 but when its not a big company its loads more and I dunno why :S

Amazon does have a warehouse part of site where they sell stock that has been returned due to damages etc for cheaper prices, but they are still pretty pricey for damaged goods...

Its crazy, a local store wooden ban you fi you bought damaged goods?

Im not going to work my arse off just to buy damaged/crappy goods, I want the best my money can get ! call me a snob, but why should anyone work hard and buy crappy stuff lol
Wow, I never heard of anyone being banned from Amazon or any website. I wonder if the banning only applies to countries outside of the U.S.? I don't know of any consumer here that was banned from Amazon.com, but I'm not sure about the Amazon.uk one.

I think its all a matter of location, location, location. If you're in a city in America and surrounded by Barnes & Noble stores, you've got it made in the shade. Anything else and its difficult. I can totally see how frustrating this could be.

The worst being the America: lost and found box set which I had to re-order 3 times and all 3 times the box set arrived very damaged with dents and creases. Ultimately, I bought it from Amazon on a 4th attempt and it arrived in pristine condition and taped well to a thick piece of cardboard so it didn't shuffle around while in transit.
Funny story, a few years ago I bought a Les Paul from Musiciansfriends.com and it arrived with the lovely headstock crack that the model is known for. I made note of the info, and returned it for a replacement.

A week went by and it showed up. I opened it, excited to finally get a playable one in my hands and guess what? It had a crack as well. I went to check on the serial # etc for my records and they had sent me the SAME EXACT guitar back!

It's only happened once but it's still a pretty odd occurrence.

I watched La Promesse for the first time last night and it was good but it didn't blow me away. I'm sort of glad I didn't blind-buy this as I can't see it as being essential in my collection. I do have the Dardenne's more recent The Kid with a Bike though and I liked that one.

Not sure about American Amazon but a lot of people get banned seem to get banned on Amazon UK, Amazon are so strict and won't even listen or let you appeal a ban and the don't even give warnings :/ when ever I spoke to Amazon about a problem they told me to file an AZ claim, they even did it on my behalf without me having to ask! its so annoying that I get banned for it when half the time it was them doing the refunds/returns etc :/

I can't even imagine the feeling of seeing all them Criterions on the shelves in the stores - it would be like Disney Land for me lol

When I went to America before in past I wasn't aware of Criterions, now fi I go again I am so worried about spending, cause I will want to go to B&N and see them, will be like a tourist attraction lol

Its nice finding a UK seller on Ebay lol - when it arrives in a day or two its an AMAZING feeling lol but yeah when ordering from US and waiting WEEKS its torture

I preorder a lot of announcements, now thats worse lol, waiting till September for Eraserhead is horrible

Tbh, damaged goods tend to only come from brand new american companies, when I order form UK residents, even used items they are in such good condition and they package them well

Gorgeous packaging. Love the bright spine contrast as well as the name being changed to match each spine.

Not really. I'm one of those people who don't think that Criterion should be releasing everything that we could possibly want, just the things that none of the other studios would do.

CBS/Paramount's set looks friggin' amazing as it is; I'm not convinced that Criterion could do better.

Besides, it's coming out the day after B&N's sale is over, so it's not like I could get it for less than half-price if Criterion did it.

But its Lynch! and Twin Peaks (tv series AND film) - I'd love to see Criterions artwork and supplements and transfer would be awesome :P and would be worth paying full price for I reckon if Criterion did it would be around £70 ($120) which wouldn't be bad :P

Amazon has banned plenty of people in the US. It happens when a customer returns or complains about a certain percentage of their orders. If Amazon is losing money selling to somebody they have no legal obligation to continue selling to that person.

Just seems like a waste having them as I don't watch now cause I have bluray version - unless anyone here wants to buy 100 odd Criterion DVDs in one sale :P?
Go to the trade thread here, I am sure some will be very happy to see a seller actually willing to post films to somewhere other than the USA.

But why should we pay for items that are continually arriving damaged or faulty? and why do they not give warnings or if there is a lot of issues looking into it and investigating and finding away around it - not just banning someone who ha spent £10K+ on their site - so much for respecting loyal customers :/

Since we talked about Hitchcock films earlier this week and mentioned Suspicion, I watched it! And it was great! I'll get the weak stuff out of the way first: it takes a little while to get into, but once the suspicion begins, the movie becomes more engaging and quietly suspenseful. It never reaches the suspense highs of say the windmill scene in Foreign Correspondent or in any of the director's later masterpieces, instead this is more of a slow burn mystery. It's not as well made as later films in the Hitchcock canon, there's some missteps, and the ending is rather unsatisfying.

Besides those flaws, the movie on the whole is immensely enjoyable and sustains your interest. Cary Grant and the beautiful Joan Fontain do a wonderful job and play their characters well. Grant is charming but also arrogant, and Fontain is understandably confused. I was really into seeing where the plot went and how it wrapped up. There are some really well shot scenes, the cinematography in black and white is gorgeous and I loved some of the camera movements. The lighting is perfectly chilling at times, and I loved the use of shadows. There is one particular shot where a glass of milk appeared to glow.

Overall, a worthwhile entry in Hitch's filmography that, save for some flaws, was on the whole very good and showed the promise of the Master of Suspense. If Foreign Correspondent was second rate Hitchcock, I would rate Suspicion in between that and his later classics, such as Vertigo, Psycho, Rear Window, Rope, North by Northwest, etc. (still haven't seen Strangers on a Train or Dial M for Murder). FC had some amazing set pieces, but Suspicion I found had a more straightforward, interesting plot.

i think criterion should use their time for other stuff as a TV show thats probably gonna get a pretty good release and bonus features for a reasonable price. and the average TV junkie is used to wait for price drops and deals for such things...

there is still enough Kurosawa , Lubitsch , Bergman,Lang,Wong Kar wai, Tarkovsky to upgrade or spend time on movies not released yet.

and they could start releasing some chinese and korean movies. enough restoration was done to a few awesome classic movies of these countrys...and there are probably plenty of russian movies that deserve a release

its already annoying enough everytime criterion does a release of a perfectly fine EU release.

So what? You keep forgetting not many people are region free or wants to import.
I'm region free and I couldn't care less if Criterion release something that's already out in Europe or vice versa. Just because it's available in one territory it doesn't mean that another should be depraved of a release.
