i don't even know if they are keeping our local library open due to funding cuts. And NO WAY IN HELL would I donate to the uni library, most students have no respect >.<! I would feel better selling them on to a new collector at a lower price to what I paid for so they can get into the collection and enjoy the films ![]() |

I think its all a matter of location, location, location. If you're in a city in America and surrounded by Barnes & Noble stores, you've got it made in the shade. Anything else and its difficult. I can totally see how frustrating this could be. |

A week went by and it showed up. I opened it, excited to finally get a playable one in my hands and guess what? It had a crack as well. I went to check on the serial # etc for my records and they had sent me the SAME EXACT guitar back! It's only happened once but it's still a pretty odd occurrence. |

I watched La Promesse for the first time last night and it was good but it didn't blow me away. I'm sort of glad I didn't blind-buy this as I can't see it as being essential in my collection. I do have the Dardenne's more recent The Kid with a Bike though and I liked that one.

CBS/Paramount's set looks friggin' amazing as it is; I'm not convinced that Criterion could do better. Besides, it's coming out the day after B&N's sale is over, so it's not like I could get it for less than half-price if Criterion did it. |

Amazon has banned plenty of people in the US. It happens when a customer returns or complains about a certain percentage of their orders. If Amazon is losing money selling to somebody they have no legal obligation to continue selling to that person.

Since we talked about Hitchcock films earlier this week and mentioned Suspicion, I watched it! And it was great! I'll get the weak stuff out of the way first: it takes a little while to get into, but once the suspicion begins, the movie becomes more engaging and quietly suspenseful. It never reaches the suspense highs of say the windmill scene in Foreign Correspondent or in any of the director's later masterpieces, instead this is more of a slow burn mystery. It's not as well made as later films in the Hitchcock canon, there's some missteps, and the ending is rather unsatisfying.
Besides those flaws, the movie on the whole is immensely enjoyable and sustains your interest. Cary Grant and the beautiful Joan Fontain do a wonderful job and play their characters well. Grant is charming but also arrogant, and Fontain is understandably confused. I was really into seeing where the plot went and how it wrapped up. There are some really well shot scenes, the cinematography in black and white is gorgeous and I loved some of the camera movements. The lighting is perfectly chilling at times, and I loved the use of shadows. There is one particular shot where a glass of milk appeared to glow. Overall, a worthwhile entry in Hitch's filmography that, save for some flaws, was on the whole very good and showed the promise of the Master of Suspense. If Foreign Correspondent was second rate Hitchcock, I would rate Suspicion in between that and his later classics, such as Vertigo, Psycho, Rear Window, Rope, North by Northwest, etc. (still haven't seen Strangers on a Train or Dial M for Murder). FC had some amazing set pieces, but Suspicion I found had a more straightforward, interesting plot. |

i think criterion should use their time for other stuff as a TV show thats probably gonna get a pretty good release and bonus features for a reasonable price. and the average TV junkie is used to wait for price drops and deals for such things...
there is still enough Kurosawa , Lubitsch , Bergman,Lang,Wong Kar wai, Tarkovsky to upgrade or spend time on movies not released yet. and they could start releasing some chinese and korean movies. enough restoration was done to a few awesome classic movies of these countrys...and there are probably plenty of russian movies that deserve a release ![]() its already annoying enough everytime criterion does a release of a perfectly fine EU release. I'm region free and I couldn't care less if Criterion release something that's already out in Europe or vice versa. Just because it's available in one territory it doesn't mean that another should be depraved of a release. |
