I don't know what's worse to them, me hating on Seven Samurai or a digipak of it, that WILL happen?

It will happen.

Another post hating on people who like the clear cases. Feel better?

Eh? There are 6-disc cases as thick as the ones Criterion use, should be plenty enough for two discs and a booklet. Though I guess there's a possibility the producer of the clear cases doesn't make any other variant than the regular one.

(And by the way I'm not not buying it because of the case, though I do dislike it. Seven Samurai will probably be the same and of course I'll buy that anyway.)

I was merely offering a suggestion for your dilemma. And it certainly seems to be a dilemma. If it were me... instead of belly-aching, I would find a way to circumvent the problem at-hand.

No worries, I did. I wrote Criterion with my thoughts on the paper cases.

You also seem to have a dilemma that concerns obsessively opining on other people's trivial little opinions. Might I offer a suggestion as well? If it were me... instead of belly-aching, I would find a way to circumvent the problem at-hand.

I just can't believe people are not going to watch films over a package. A freakin' package.

Yeah, that's what I was saying. Criterion had their clear, plastic blu-ray cases custom-made from Scanavo. Criterion also gets all of their clear, plastic DVD cases from Scanavo now. So, for Criterion to get some new 2- or 3-disc plastic cases made from Scanavo, they'd have to hand out some more cash for a molding tool and what-not. In the end, the majority of Criterion blu-rays will probably fit on a single disc, so it wouldn't be financially worth it for them to go have multi-disc cases made.

I'll watch them, just not buy them. I can always watch a film online or pipe it from computer to HDTV. I buy Criterion films for a variety of reasons. Both because I generally like their selection of films as well as because I like their physical product. The clear cases are very classy looking and presentable. Cardboard cases really take away from the product for me, and apparently for many other people. In the case of cardboard cases I would only buy if I REALLY want the film on Blu. A film like Seven Samurai i'd still consider buying in a cardboard case, but with a film like The Leopard that I don't consider a "must buy" it's enough to keep me from buying.

When Criterion releases Videodrome I hope they do the same box art for the blu as the DVD. Slipbox with the artwork made to look like a Beta.

Granted, I like the clear plastic cases. Be that as it may, I don't see a problem with the "Leopard" casing. It looks sturdy to me. And from what I can see with the pictures, it is a heck of a lot better than the casing that "400 Blows" etc. came in.

Hahaha. And I'm supposed to believe what you say that came from "some guy that knows someone on the inside"? Next thing I know you're gonna be showing me an Amazon pre-order link.

I'm trying to watch Maurice Pialat's "L'Enfance-nue," but you guys keep interrupting me.

HA, and get this, today I had a fight about Spielberg and got some points taken away from me. But some lurkers gave me more good points than the bad ones. I guess there are people in this world who sees Spielberg as a hack like me. So I got out of it with more good points than I had.

Well, I'm sure there's someone out there with the same opinions as you, CG. Hang in there. *insert photo of kitten hanging from tree limb* You'll find someone one of these days. They're probably waiting for you to find them on craigslist.

Well I hope it's true. Not going to get my hopes up until Criterion comes out confirms this release. I suppose if it really does come out in November we'll have to wait three months for Criterion to confirm this.

Yeah I won't get my hopes up either (reminded myself of when I said that about the Amazon pre-orders and got jumped for it), it sounds too good to be true, Last Picture Show, Easy Rider, and Five Easy Pieces. That's 3 huge movies Sony is giving up. Though some reason I believe this more than Darjeeling Limited.

Oh and that movie A Safe Place, it stars Jack Nicholson and Orson Welles, so that is a seller in that set.
