The Leopard is incredibly beautiful, I recommend it for the beautiful sets and intricate, delicate costume design alone.

The colours are gorgeous, it has quite a bit f grain which I liked, but the other releases I think have less of it, but I think it adds to it.

I had to stop it over half way as a friend popped round so can't give much on story, but I think its incredible form what I have seen.

And a bonus is it has american version much like Godzilla release, which will be interesting to compare the two.

Can't wait to get time to finish it

I bet you've seen From Here to Eternity and are just forgetting. If not, then definitely that one!

Owl will vouch because he's seen many of them and there is such an influx of BL films either out on blu or coming out soon. I bought The Train and have The Swimmer on my wish list. Both are reviewed very highly. Haven't watched them yet though.

From Here to Eternity
is maybe my favorite Lancaster performance. His acting in that film is so nuanced, there are times you think he's a great guy and within a matter of minutes later, a complete cad.

It would be interesting if Criterion were going to work on a Carrie BLU release. It was noted a long time back that the film needs extensive restoration and that MGM at that time weren't interested in preserving the film. Perhaps DePalma and others have stepped up to save the film.

Also Criterion's LD release was the last home video version to have the accurate audio soundtrack before the DVD etc created the 5.1 mix. It would be cool to have the original mono mix of the film as an option.

It's actually cheaper at Barnes and Noble, of all places.

Hopefully, upgrades of his star making The Killers and the aptly titled Brute Force are in the works. The upcoming Kino releases of The Unforgiven and Run Silent, Run Deep are two titles I can highly recommend.

Seven Days in May is on one of the niche-catalog companies' radars, isn't it?

(And somebody at Warner is responsible for Local Hero--and Burt's 80's comeback, along with Atlantic City--still not being on Blu. Whoever it is, shoot him down...Shoot to kill. )

I thought Sweet Smell of Success was ok but I really enjoyed Burt's performance in Birdman of Alcatraz.

Also MGM's deal to lease Carrie out to Scream Factory/Shout! fell through... could Criterion have picked it up?

Nice reference, makes me laugh just thinking of Lancaster saying it.

I happened across my old DVD of Local Hero the other night, the dangers of cardboard packaging. Probably half of my old Warner "snapper" cases have warped in a strange way, what a terrible piece of design They need to upgrade Local Hero so I can retire it

Only on DVD at the moment, but I can recommend the same director's The Fallen Idol - fantastic story, tightly plotted and directed and a great performance from Richardson

But indeed it did!

I guess because he approved the DVD?

Anyways, I knew because when I got "Smiles" on Blu I put the Signature Sticker on "The Seventh Seal" because of the little devil drawing.

I paid $14.94 for my blu-ray of The Swimmer last month on DeepDiscount.com during their "Extra 25% Off" promotion. (It shipped on June 3, and I received it shortly thereafter.) It's currently $16.69 on their website, and you can get free shipping with a $25.00 minimum purchase.

DeepDiscount tends to have the best sale prices on films from the "minor" or "niche" distributors like Kino, Olive, Flicker Alley, Strand Releasing, etc. In the same order, I scored "Cry Vengeance" with Mark Stevens for $16.25. I also ordered Kino's release of "The Death Kiss" (1932) with David Manners and Bela Lugosi for a low $19.94 (it was listed for over $30.00 on Amazon), but Kino seems to have either cancelled or postponed their release. Anyone know what happened with that title...?

Dang it! I see Cry Vengeance is now on sale for $12.99 over at DeepDiscount during their Olive Films sale. Grrrr ....

They've also got Burt Lancaster in Twilight's Last Gleaming for $12.79 (SRP is $29.99). Happy hunting!

The Train is still available from Twilight Time and it is an outstanding World War II suspense film with impressive tough work from Burt Lancaster, Paul Scofield, and Jeanne Moreau.

Gunfight at the O.K. Corral is a superb Blu-ray in every regard, with a beautiful color transfer that lends depth to the shadowy indoor sequences while making the most of the Old West scenery of the outdoor shots. Burt Lancaster plays Wyatt Earp, Kirk Douglas plays Doc Holliday, and the end result is my favorite screen interpretation of their story. This may take liberties with the real events regarding Earp and Holliday, but this is how I would have wanted the story to have happened, and that's what really counts.

Airport (1970) is a fun precursor to the disaster film craze of that decade. This film not only stars Burt Lancaster in a great lead rule, but you also get to see the always-radiant Jean Seberg (Breathless).

Rope of Sand (1949) is included in the Olive Films Blu-ray set, Film Noir Collection: Volume 1, although it is not quite a film noir. It's more of a thriller along the lines of Casablanca, and it even shares some of the stars. This movie features several Criterion Collection stronghands, namely Burt Lancaster, Peter Lorre, and Claude Raines. Corinne Calvet is a real beauty, ohhhhh yes she is.

I cannot say enough great things about The Swimmer or The Leopard. The Swimmer, in particular, is one of the more unnerving films that I've watched in quite a while.

I'm hoping to buy the Olive Films Blu-ray, Twilight's Last Gleaming, and I may pick up 1900 at some point.

Kino Lorber has a big heapin' helpin' of Burt Lancaster films coming out over the next few months. The Scalphunters, The Young Savages, Elmer Gantry, The Unforgiven, Separate Tables, and Run Silent, Run Deep.

Take this tweet as you will but apparently The Brood will be coming October 21st with a 4K restoration. This guy is the managing web editor at Fangoria. Says it will be announced first week in August but clearly if it is true will happen Tuesday.
