A guy that works on Fangoria's website tweeted the following

Quote:
Spoiler Alert: Very trusted source says THE BROOD hits Criterion Blu-ray 10/21/14. Announcement to hit first week of August. 4K restoration.
Obviously, if true, it'll be announced on Tuesday, and not in August.

Check out this lineup of movies that will be showing at the Landmark Midtown theatre here in Atlanta this fall...

Tue, Sep 16: This Is Spinal Tap (1984), directed by Rob Reiner.
Tue, Sep 23: Ran (1985), directed by Akira Kurosawa. 35mm print!
Tue, Sep 30: Jules and Jim (1962), directed by François Truffaut.
Tue, Oct 7: M (1931), directed by Fritz Lang.
Tue, Oct 14: Tokyo Story (1953), directed by Yasujirô Ozu.
Tue, Oct 21: Lord of the Flies (1963), directed by Peter Brook.
Tue, Oct 28: Elevator to the Gallows (1958), directed by Louis Malle. 35mm print!
Tue, Nov 4: I Vitelloni (1953), directed by Federico Fellini. 35mm print!
Tue, Nov 11: Contempt (1963), directed by Jean-Luc Godard.

These all look quite tempting but the one that I have the most urgency to see is Fritz Lang's M. I'm also planning to hit Louis Malle's Elevator to the Gallows.

Ozu's Tokyo Story might have to be a priority as well.

I love that they're showing my favorite Fellini film, I Vitelloni.

Take this tweet as you will but apparently The Brood will be coming October 21st with a 4K restoration. This guy is the managing web editor at Fangoria. Says it will be announced first week in August but clearly if it is true will happen Tuesday.
do'h I was a minute late....

Thanks for the information!

October seems like a fitting month for the title. I can see The Vanishing being announced, as well.

Just like everyone is saying, The Swimmer is tremendous. One of my favourite films I've seen this year.

But sadly, not Commander USA's version.

I think it is safe to say Tuesday may be one of the most anticipated announcement days yet given that:

- October is the month in question (even though Criterion does not have a track record of release a large number of horror/suspense films in October).
- The Brood is rumored to released in Oct (via Fangoria).
- Mulholland Drive is expected to be released in Q4 sometime.
- The Vanishing which was mentioned in a newsletter I believe is yet to be released (and would certainly fit the October release month).
- There are still a ton of rumoured high profile, anticipated releases yet to be released (Tati box, L'Aventura, Midnight Cowboy, Apu Trilogy)
- The recent mention of Carrie seems interesting as well...

Not to mention Don't Look Now, which would be a great Halloween title along with The Brood.

Twilight Time also has the awful remake of The Vanishing coming on 10/14 as well...

The Leopard is made-for-blu. Not only gorgeous to look at, but a master class by Lancaster. The last 1/3 of the film, especially, is just remarkable, gutsy film-making, and Lancaster is a big part of selling it. He's good in Sweet Smell of Success, but he doesn't carry that film the way he does The Leopard. A few people on here have thought it was slow, but between the great visuals and the complex nuance of Lancaster's Prince, I didn't have that experience at all. Lancaster's Hunsecker is almost a cameo compared to what he does in Leopard.

Really liked the book that came with Ace in the Hole. Had to stop watching movie after 20 minutes first time as was not giving it my full attention. Waited a few days and watched it again. Really good stuff. Douglas was so slimy in his role as Tatum. But damn if Sterling wasn't just as bad.

Sorry for going a little bit off-topic with this, and I don't know if it's been mentioned here yet, but I have to post this for Owl...

I just read in another thread that "Out of the Past" has been announced for a blu-ray release from Warner Archive!

Here's the link to the facebook page.

Just got six more criterion from B&N all using the $8 off coupon:
Paris, Texas
In the Mood for Love
Black Narcissus
Colonel Blimp
Persona
And I got flustered when he said he would take one more so I grabbed The Complete Jean Vigo (saw that l'atalante was one of the top films by Sight and Sound)
Not sure if I should keep the Vigo set or may get something else

I watched Like Someone in Love last night and I nearly fell asleep about half-way through. I'm a big Kiarostami fan but I probably should have watched this fully awake to notice the subtle nuances and elements in the film. I think it was a beautiful story and I love his "less is more" approach, but I'm not sure I can recommend this as a blind-buy. Forget the hideous cover art though, the movie itself is stunning in terms of picture and sound quality. Does anyone else like this movie?

I raised a BIG fuss about this last year or the year before regarding the Blue stickers. I was all pissed that I threw these away before I realized these could be collectible and I attempted to start my own "Blue Criterion Signature Sticker" thread. It crashed and burned. People laughed all throughout the forums at this ludicrous idea of saving the blue stickers. Nevertheless, I'm glad I'm not crazy and someone else likes doing this too. I just take a pair of scissors and carefully cut around the sticker (if its the Dual Format grey sticker, cool too) and then put it inside with the booklet.

Damn. I do the same thing with all the stickies. Cut around it and then place either in booklet or behind it.

Default Criterion Collection Discussion

I know there are only a few mainstream movies in the collection, but what would you guys think of a criterion An American Werewolf in London? I was watching this tonight and could not help thinking that it really felt slightly Criterion ... Hahahah. Same goes for The Wicker Man.

Oh, Oh......there goes two months of Tuesday nights. Doubt I'll make the effort for Spinal Tap, but Ran projected in 35 mm, I'm there!
