Naked is pretty much my most essential and favorite film in the Criterion Collection. There is a quote from the film from Johnny that is just so awesome that I feel like I need to memorize this if someone asks me something vague as in "so how did you get here?":

Johnny: Well, basically, there was this little dot, right? And the dot went bang and the bang expanded. Energy formed into matter, matter cooled, matter lived, the amoeba to fish, to fish to fowl, to fowl to frog, to frog to mammal, the mammal to monkey, to monkey to man, amo amas amat, quid pro quo, memento mori, ad infinitum, sprinkle on a little bit of grated cheese and leave under the grill till Doomsday.

Just genius acting. Genius!

I watched La Vie de Boheme last night for the first time. A fantastic movie from Aki Kaurismaki. Now this is what I'm talking about. Most of you male viewers will agree with me that this is a man's movie and a good one at that. I really liked that Laika (the dog) was heavily featured in the film too as a character. Kaurismaki's deadpan humour and eccentric directing is refreshing all the way. No wonder Jim Jarmusch considers him a true brother in his life.

I would say that this was a good blind-buy for me.

Actually it IS pretty crazy, but there's nothing wrong with that as nobody here has the right to judge!

I do like the smell of the booklets. Back in the day I liked the smell of the liner note booklets from CDs - same thing.

Phew! glad I am not only one! :P Luckily I am in design and print career so I get to smell a lot of nice prints - nothing beats Criterion's smell though haha!

Kinda funny. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say, "we need some Keanu Reeves in the Criterion Collection"

And on laserdisc, Bram Stoker's Dracula.

There are some movies with Keanu that I wouldn't object to seeing in the Collection if Criterion wanted to do them: Little Buddha, A Walk in the Clouds, and River's Edge.

I supposed I liked The Devil's Backbone well enough but I'm not gonna lie. Over the next several years I'll probably rewatch Advocate five times for every time I rewatch Backbone.

Similar thing with books - especially new hardbacks. Lovely!

And my first LP, Brain Salad Surgery, back in 1973, the inner poster had a magical smell that I've never forgotten

New hardcovers and used bookstores: two of the coolest smells in the world.

I still think we needed scented Criterions, as suggested before, a personal smell per film that reflects its themes and story.

Saw Boyhood this afternoon, which I expect will get a Criterion release before the year is out. In fact....

October predictions -

Boyhood and the Antoine Doinel Cycle, given that they're kindred spirits of sorts, and it's Truffaut's 30th anniversary that month.

I'll also throw in Jeanne Dielman for good measure.

For years I have imagined a film where the actor is same person over course of a few years +

So quite interested in this :P

I agree Sweet Movie is the worst most boring excuse for anything captures on film that Criterion ever licensed.

Im waiting for bluray! It was disgusting and vile, but I'm a sucker for transgressive cinema or controversial cinema.

Love the drama around it and the reactions it causes :P

I don't even want to imagine what a Salo release would smell like.
