My favorite left-field Criterion title that would never happen but I'd absolutely hope it will and have this suspicion in my mind it may happen some day if I really cross my fingers is the 1977 Malcolm McDowell/David Warner film Time After Time, about HG Wells travelling to the future to hunt down Jack the Ripper. I think it deserves merit as its a bit of a forgotten classic of the "wackier sci-fi/action films" genre in a similar sense to a title like Repo Man (which I enjoy if I still don't really understand the wider appeal of). It's likely to get a release by TT (as it is the same production company as Broadway Danny Rose and Radio Days) though so I suppose I'd have more luck over in that thread.

Though Mr. McDowell and Mr. Warner are both sadly underrepresented in the Criterion Collection as a whole (how much money would it take to get Secret of the Ooze in?)

What are the best mystery films on Criterion, a bit like 3 women, or Mulholland dr etc

Not just straight forward crime mysteries, something that messes with your head and leaves you questioning it and trying to find out more (Picnic at Hanging Rock)...

I dunno lol, just want some more stuff like that, also bluray only suggestions for now

Should I blind-buy Lonesome? Apparently, people rave about this one. I do like silent film so I'm leaning towards this.

I really liked it but would not rank it alongside titles like City Girl and Sunrise. But, it's a great value because you get two additional films included.

Well, not out by criterion ( though all could be candidates):

- Cache (a near sin this is notin the collection - see this right away!)
- White Ribbon
- Don't Look Now (a bit dated and not as great IMO as some say it is but I respect it just like Picnic at Hanging Rock).
- Other Lynch: Blue Velvet (the most straight forward of them all), Inland Empire and Lost Highway of course.

In terms of Criterion releases:
- Double Life of Veronique

But Judgment's writing and arguments are just astounding.
Kind of a mix of Judgment and philosophy, would suggest checking out Hannah Arendt. Some astounding/controversial arguments about the Holocaust and its participants (and the trials) going on there. A Margarethe von Trotta film.

Also tried to watch her film Rosa Luxemburg last night, but the subs were flying way too fast (and slightly furious) for me. Same lead actress, Barbara Sukowa. I'll give it another shot down the road a spell...

I caught this film when it was released in Canada last year. It is very good in not only changing the way we look at those who take orders but how society judges them. Also fascinating that it was a women who did this in a male dominated industry and time.

I really wish this was in the collection. Cannot believe there is no Hanake in the collection at all (though not a fan of all of his fans - see Funny Games ... Both versions)

To whomever in these parts recommended Cedar Lee Theatre in Cleveland awhile back, thanks. It has made for a pleasant diversion in a longer than expected stay in Cleveland.

Yes, forgot about Certified Copy. Great suggestion.

Same could be said of Persona though for me it is akin to Lynch's "Wild at Heart" where it leans too far to the art film side and there is not enough focus on the characters or story/fragments of story. Mullholand Drive balances this very will in contrast.

Default Dazed and Confused

Just finished watching Dazed and Confused. Awesome movie! (Killer soundtrack too). Even though I graduated from high school 3 or 4 years before the movie was supposed to have taken place, I sure could relate to it. Good times!!! (On to the supplements).

While Orion Pictures was one of the studios behind Time After Time, the other studio, who owns the home video rights, is Warner Bros. So it's unlikely to get licensed out.

(And while I hate to be pedantic, it was 1979, not 1977.)

Malcolm McDowell has one film in the Collection...Lindsay Anderson's If.... And if it's true that Criterion is regaining the rights to Time Bandits, David Warner will have one, too.

It really is terribly good fun. And the artwork is utterly gorgeous - no cover artist needed, for sure!
