I'm sure you will! I blind bought this one during the sale, and just watched it last week (I own Eyes Without a Face on DVD). All through the first half of Judex I kept exclaiming to my wife "look at this, it's beautiful!" I could choose so many stills to frame and put on my wall. I think the composition is beautiful! There were some places that I was directly reminded of EWAF. I will say that I didn't quite enjoy the last part of the story as much as the early parts of the film, but I'm very glad to own this one.

That is great news, that's one of my favorite animated movies ever. The R1 DVD was very bare-bones.

OMG I want Watership Down on BLU so bad from Criterion! This has been one of my grail BLU titles. It would be awesome if it gets announced for OCT!

I'm almost ashamed to say I've never seen it. Would you say it's in the vein of something like "Secret of NIMH", or is it even darker and more adult themed?

I would say darker and more adult... I don't think younger children would like it much. It may be too harsh.. I'd say it is arthouse 70's animation. It may not be for everyone.

Oh, i didn't know that there are only itunes Criterion titles.
Does that mean that we might see it on Bluray too?
Where can I see other digital only releases?

With respect to potential October titles, I had a good laugh over this post from another thread...

Criterion artwork for Friday the 13th I-X

Actually, I laughed, and then I thought to myself, "Well...that would be sort of cool."
I would happily upgrade the first two films, which are the only ones worth owning in my opinion.

I would say it's unsuitable for children..

Look! If you're gonna act like that I don't mind the Dual packs esp for listening to the commentary tracks on my computer drive. But other than that I don't use the DVD discs. Don't worry Sept. the releases are all seperate again.

(I don't think it's true, but if you'd like to, be my guest) Anyway, it is frequently comforting to know that Ebert did include a film like Blow Up in his Great Movies column, but didn't include the two films from the alienation trilogy that CC recently released on blu. That isn't to say that he didn't like those films, but he wrote around 250 reviews for the GM column and didn't feel inclined to write about those. Also not included are Hiroshima, mon Amour (I won't get started, but this one deserves a capital 'P' and we all know what that stands for) and Pierrot le Fou (just saw the latter... was good - like 3/4 star good but does not hold a candle, IMO, to Breathless, Vivre sa Vie, or even Weekend
CC favorite Ingmar Bergman considered Blow Up the only Antonioni worth watching. I would love if they did the feature for Battle of Algiers for Blow Up, bringing together significant directors to talk about how the film influenced them. Getting Coppola (Conversation), Scott (Blade Runner), and De Palma (Blow Out) would be essential.

This may be a naive question: is there a noticeable difference in blu-ray animation films vs. their DVDs? examples: Disney classics, Pixar, Studio Ghibli (very expensive blu-rays)?

Also, is Midnight Cowboy really in the pipeline? I have the blu-ray and it was fine. How many Oscar Best Picture winners have Criterion released?

Most (if not all) of the times there is a significant difference.
Concerning the Disney (hand-drawn) animation films I would say to the absolute worst!!
(although many may not agree with me).
The films are DNRed and degrained to death, scrubbed, losing details (VHS some times exhibit much more detail than the Bluray!!), altered colors, errors, and the list goes on.

Although Disney are among my favourite films, i've stopped supporting this company that doesn't show the slightest respect to its legacy!

Other companies are (by far) better.
For example, the restoration of Gulliver's Travels (1939) by Thunderbean is a revelation!

The Studio Ghibli films (the expensive Japan releases), are also great preserving the grain and having this filmic quality!
