Thank you to everyone who encouraged me to get Autumn Sonata, I am going to try and squeeze it into my next B&N order. It's really hard to stay on top of my Criterion wish list. I doubt I'll ever get them all (all the ones I want that is). It seems like every time I buy one, another 2 or 3 pop up that I want to get haha

I don't regret buying the short one, especially considering how cheap it is. If it turns out the long version is way better AND the extra features are really interesting I'll buy it again, but I sorta doubt that's going to happen.
Will the next release only include the extended cut?

I placed my second Barnes and Noble order the other night and got an email saying that they weren't scheduled to ship until August 8th
Looks like I'mma have to make a little call to them tomorrow to inquire about why the f*ck that is.

Anyways, my second order consists of these:

The Essential Jacques Demy
Scanners
Picnic At Hanging Rock
L'eclisse
Il Sorpasso

I am greatly anticipating this shipment and hope that I can get that shipping date changed!

Watched nearly all but about 20percent have not watched the criterion releases yet.

Second run, MOC, some Bfi and Studio Canal releases are worthy as well. Thanks

Diabolique is such a great movie. I blind bought it over a year ago, one of my favorite criterion buys.

Love your 3,4,5,6 favorite movies, 1 and 2 are also good.

I'm going through the Cassavettes set, and I'm watching The Killing of a Chinese Bookie today. I've enjoyed all of the films so far. Which version do you guys like the most? I'm tempted to go with the shorter one, since I feel that there's a reason that Cassavettes shortened it up. Does the tighter editing give the film a better feel?

Apologies if this has already been posted, but the artwork for Sundays and Cybele has had a big redesign. The new one is a great improvement.

The old design, for reference.

I know what you mean.
Without being a Criterion completist that I want to have all just for Criterion's sake, i already have 13 in my wishlist.
(bought another 4 in the sale)

What does everyone think about Nicholas Roeg's Insignificance? I haven't seen the movie, and have been considering a blind buy.

I loved, and own, Walkabout and The Man Who Fell to Earth, and I keep hoping Criterion gets the rights to Don't Look Now, which I also loved. However, on the strength of those 3 films, I had blind bought the Criterion DVD of Bad Timing years ago, and thoroughly despised it.

I LOVED Bad Timing! However if you didn't like Bad Timing I don't think you will like Insignificance very much. It isn't for everyone. I think it is the hardest of Roegs films to get into.

The performances were all excellent and it was pretty interesting overall but I found my mind wandering from time to time. Not frequently but I can't say it totally grabbed me either.

It's very much worth watching but buying it blind is a tougher call.

Insignificance is one of my top blind buys. I fell in love with this film.

However, I would not recommend it as a blind buy to anyone even though I did this myself. It is unlike any of the three films you have already seen by Roeg.

Obviously this is a bit OT but I know I'm not the only region-free Eureka/MoC fan in these parts.

(I ordered the two steelbooks and total cost was a little over $40...that's pretty good)

The following Blu-rays have been reduced to £9.99 each: Il Bidone, Wings, Dr. Mabuse der Spieler, Computer Chess, La Notte, and Nosferatu. The SteelBook versions of Nosferatu and Dr. Mabuse der Spieler have also been reduced to just £12.00 each

I appreciated the performances, but didn't really get into the movie. And I usually really like surreal, "philosophy" movies. It is the only Roeg film I have seen. I would really like to see Walkabout, been thinking about buying that one for a couple of years now, but other titles always get released that I'm more interested in.

Typically, the buzzy/culty American films Criterion releases don't do it for me, but this is the real deal.

Thanks for your thoughts on Insignificance, everyone. Much appreciated. I keep a ranked list of about 10 or so Criterions (usually blind buys, which at least 50% of my Criterions have been, with few regrets) for potential purchase for when the various sales arrive. It's been at the top of that list for months now (because I loved those 3 other Roeg films I mentioned), but I keep passing it over due to how much I disliked Bad Timing. I'm headed back to my local B&N today (3rd time this month) to buy Insomnia, and since it's impossible to buy just 1 Criterion, I figured that maybe it's time.
