Mine would be Vivre sa Vie. I think that it is the most beautiful film I have ever seen.
Repo Man is a great pick.

My pick would be Two-Lane Blacktop, not my best Criterion, but I could watch it a 100 times and not be bored

We don't even know they have Watership Down, either, except for buzz hints.

Right now, we're in "Criterion can release ANYTHING, because they're magic, like Santa Claus! " mode.

I saved all spring for these babies and now that they're finally here I'm super pumped to watch them. Thankfully it's my day off from work today so you know what I'm doing all day!

I still have the Jacques Demy set on the way but I was too excited so I had to share this with all of you already. So here's the haul:

No, but they had Akira once upon a time... the only Criterion DUBBED release AFAIK (well, native Japanese was on the analog tracks, but without any subtitle option). That might have even been my first 3-disc Criterion LD set (3-4 discs were $124.95 retail, Brazil at 5 was $150).

Yes we do; they're releasing it on iTunes in HD on August 5th. As to when they put out a BD is another matter, but iTunes has been an indicator of ones to come (Eraserhead; F for Fake; Vengeance is Mine) - and not all catalogue titles (Eraserhead is new and didn't have a spine when it first hit iTunes).

Watched and was very impressed with the Bay Of Angels disc last night. A vast improvement over the LOLA experience. It's such a great film anyway, and this was my first time seeing it outside of VHS, so it was positively revelatory. The opening shot might be my favourite opening shot in any movie!

Thanks for the recommendations and feedback, y'all. The Long Goodbye will be a blind buy for me, but I'm familiar with the Raymond Chandler story.

I'll put 3 Women into consideration, especially now that a few glimpses at Internet Movie Database reviews have piqued my interest.

So I'd like some help from my very knowledgeable fellow forum members. Placing a B&N order online shortly, in my cart now I have: Insomnia, Seconds, George Washington, and Riot In Cell Block 11.

I'm going to add another title, but can't choose. I am very brave when it comes to blind buying, so I will probably purchase whatever is recommended by forum members. You can see my collection at my collection on this site, the criterions are organized on their own. Please feel free to recommend based on a director I need more of, a country, genre, whatever. Thanks everyone!

If I were you, I'd go for Michelangelo Antonioni's L'Eclisse. I had a blast revisiting this film the other night, and it's a visually-arresting masterpiece that may pull you out of your comfort zone a little bit.

Antonioni's Criterion Blu-rays are all wonderful (La Notte, L'Eclisse, Red Desert, Identification of a Woman), but L'Eclisse is my favorite by a slight margin. If you prefer color films, however, then I heartily recommend Red Desert, because it has perhaps the most fascinating use of color in the Collection.

Like Owl, I'd recommend an Antonioni film. All of the Criterion Blu-Rays are fantastic, but my favorite is La Notte.

just wanted to chime in here, too.

I'd be EXTREMELY surprised if you didn't find A LOT to like about 3 Women. Rich Pure Doom has it right - it is a film that bears some thematic similarities to Persona and Mulholland Drive. I need to revisit the film or buy it for myself, too, as a matter of fact.

no P&P? is it because you know that you're not fond of them?

if you haven't given them a try, you might be surprised.

So after waiting until the end of the sale this week for Insomnia to come out I finally trekked out to my nearest B&N for some splurging...walked away with:

Ace in the Hole
Black Narcissus
A Hard Days Night
Insomnia
Judex
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Red River
Rififi
Riot in Cell Block II
Scanners
& Throne of Blood
