The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is one of those Criterion titles that I simply have no desire to check out. I've heard great things about the movie from many sources, but my gut instinct just keeps me away from it. I can't explain, but I'm just not feeling it when it comes to seeing the film.

One of these days, I may stumble across it, watch it, love it, and kick myself for not having bought it sooner. I'll wait for that day, though.

I really liked the first film, it walks such a brilliant line to avoid falling into the rom-com trap. AGAIG on the other hand always seemed very fake to me, I cringed through most of the film and wanted never to see it again.
I liked Broadcast News much more than As Good As it Gets. I like the three lead actors but the plot of AGAIG seemed very contrived. Still, James L. Brooks will probably best be remembered as a the man who brought the world The Simpsons. How's that for a resume?

It's a fantasy drama, a genre I don't particulary care for, usually. I generally have to believe in the characters before I care about them. Benjamin Button I found contrived, and maudlin. Fantasy comedies, on the other hand, are a different story. Think: I Married a Witch, Groundhog Day and my avatar.

Not to mention the hysterical performance by Olivier as a Canuck trapper.

Criterion is releasing a western box-set? Any word on what films it will include?

It's also 50%. jmclick was incorrect about the May/June "all Blu-rays" sale, though. That was 40% off rather than 50%. B&N also has a few "Buy 2, get 1 free" sales throughout the year, which (obviously) is a 33% discount, assuming you get three equally-priced discs.

Monte Hellman's The Shooting and Ride in the Whirlwind seem to be the definite selections. The actors listed for the interviews on the above Facebook discussion image all center around these films.

I haven't seen The Social Network, for similar reasons. Anyway, Benjamin Button is arguably the least of Fincher's films (I should rewatch it back-to-back with Alien³ to see which one I like less). Which doesn't mean it's not good, but it's not a wowzer like most of his other films are.

Oh, since this seems like a Jack Nicholson western set (), can they include The Missouri Breaks too where he co-stars with Marlon Brando?

For those of you on the board who are "collect all Criterion blu-ray" types, I would imagine you are probably at the point of the sale where you have filled in the gaps in your collection since the last big sale. Since I'm a big believer that it's much easier to own the whole blu collection than it is to watch the whole blu collection, I'm always curious to hear what everyone's watched percentage is? (Obviously there are a lot of different ways to calculate this).

Actually, I'm also curious how many collect all Criterion blu types we have around here as well.

I suppose this question works for everyone. Of the Criterion blus that you own, what % have you watched?

Even if I could afford it I wouldn't collect movies I wouldn't watch. Criterion comes close though

Not a 'collect all' type (though I do give them a lot of latitude when it comes to blind buying).

I would say at any given time roughly 20% of the Criterions I own are unwatched.

I don't collect them all, but, as per a list I have on Letterboxd, my watched percentage is about 83% (DVD and Blu-ray).

So, I just got the World Cinema Box V1. I've yet to watch it but am curious as I often miss so much by not being a social media fan, Volume 2? Any mention or information? Thanks in advance.
