Nic Cage is a talented actor who stars in a lot of crap due to financial issues. He has given great performances in Raising Arizona, Leaving Las Vegas, Bringing Out the Dead, Adaptation, Bad Lieutenant, etc.

I don't think it's an issue with the re-release per se. People seem to be upset that Warner spends their resources on re-issuing some titles several times over while other titles are still languishing without a release. In Warner's case, it seems worse because of the enormity of the catalog of titles they own.

He's a great actor and there's no greater proof of that than his performance in what is my most anticipated Criterion release: Leaving Las Vegas.

And let's not forget Mike Figgis' tweet last year about how he was talking with Criterion for a possible 20th anniversary release.

Yeah, but what resources are they really spending on a rerelease? If the chatter is to be believed most of these boxes are designed by monkeys trained by interns anyway.

It's not like resources are being diverted from restoration or mastering.

So why should anybody care if Kubrick gets a new box set or some other already released title gets a new digibook? I mean, does anybody really believe this Kubrick set will delay a release of The Big Sleep?

I just don't see it.

I can't remember how good his performance was or wasn't, but damn if I wasn't entertained w/ Matchstick Men, too.

Somehow he has become the punch line of a joke - one that has grown very stale. Maybe it's because of the way he looks or some expression he made in some film? IDK... but IMO, there are many worse actors. Ben Affleck comes to mind.

He was pretty good at portraying a cold, empty, lost and distant person in To The Wonder :P

Ben Affleck is a competent actor and an even better writer/director, so let's not throw him under the bus!

Well, one of the things one hears is that the market for classic blu-rays is drying up. Therefore, you could question the wisdom of releasing yet another box set when the die-hards who might have been interested in purchasing it would have most likely already purchased one of the previous sets. Why not divert those resources to new product that people don't already have?

What I would hate to hear a year from now is something like "well the sales for our last Kubrick box were pretty flat, so we're going to scale back our release schedule for future blu ray upgrades."

But then, I'm not in marketing for WB.

They should just hand the films rights over to Criterion and let Criterion show them how to do it :P I bet Criterion will some how get a Director approved edition of all the films... lol

I liked his character Stanley Goodspeed in The Rock.

What ruined Wild At Heart for me.... was Wild At Heart. It's a mess of a film. Nic Cage is also pretty great in Moonstruck.

Isn't the UK BD supposed to be a lot better than the Criterion? You could buy that.

Sorry for the sacrilege...

The Second Sight release does have extras (particularly interviews) not found on the Criterion, and good marks for PQ, but it is cut by a minute for animal cruelty content, and locked to region B (for those to whom that matters).
