Kazama,

There are no Blu-ray releases of Assassin(s). Actually, there are no English-friendly continental DVD releases of it either.

Tacones lejanos -- I have the German release from Universal (see below), and I don't think there are any major problems with the framing. The German release is also English-friendly.

Unfortunately, DVDs -- standard definition transfers -- cannot handle Almodovar's films. Even the transfers in Sony's box set (see below) are quite average. Almodovar's style is all about lush and garish colors. With DVD you can't come close to what Almodovar intended. Basic limitations.

Bigas Luna -- I also have the Tartan set. Upgrades would be wonderful, but I am fairly certain no one is touching Ages of Lulu in the U.S. I am unsure what the deal is in the UK at this point, and if Tartan still have a license to handle these films, but if the British decide to release it on Blu-ray I am fairly certain they will cut it again. An uncut Spanish release is probably your best bet. Their first DVD release was uncut.

Back to Almodovar -- It is great to finally have him in the Criterion Collection. But I would really love to see some of his early films on Blu-ray, Dark Habits, in particular, would be fantastic to upgrade.

I don't know what happened and what I had in mind (probably distracted by the #1 capture of your Criterion review of "Tie Me Down!...")- these Spanish blu-ray are from a label called Cameo not Raro.
I have edited my post.

did you buy one of these Cameo Blu-Ray of Almodovar ?
At least almost all his movies are released in Spain on blu-ray.
Unfortunately I can't make some vidcaps but a side-by-side comparison with Atamé/Tie Me Down !... wouldn't make the Cameo Blu-Ray blush because the picture quality of this blu-ray was really impressing. I was almost about to buy the whole catalog... and I don't understand why they butchered the ratio of "Tacones lejanos" (it's an "impossible" ratio - not scope (it's bigger) not 1:85) whereas all the other blu-ray Cameo have bought have a pristine transfer, HD details, fine grain, no noticeable DNR and vivid colors and ratio is accurate for all other blu-ray I have bought...

I remember here a post of someone who bought Kika on blu-ray from Cameo too and he was very pleased with the picture quality.

I really hope that some other early Bigas Luna movies will be released on blu-ray at least in Spain. (and yes, the Tartan box UK set with "Ages of Lulu" is an "almost" uncut version but not 100% uncut)

for those who will enjoy the photography of "Tie Me Down! Tie Me Up!" by José Luis Alcaine, "Jambon Jambon" came out the following year (1992) and the Spanish Blu-Ray is excellent (but no subtitles at all contrary to the Cameo Blu-Ray)

God I can't wait for the release of All That Jazz. I've had the film pre-ordered from Barnes And Noble! Can't wait!

And also, why did it take such a long time for an update for F For Fake?

Maybe they just had other priorities and it wasn't really something people was wanting badly - they have released a lot of new an upgraded film people have wanted for years.

You should buy a bubble for it so that you can prevent any and all injuries.

Speaking of box sets, when it comes to blu-ray, America Lost and Found, and John Cassavetes: Five Films are fantastic.

Starting the guessing a bit early this month, but here we go. I think November will have:
-The Brood
-Do the Right Thing
-Midnight Cowboy
-Straight to Hell (or, alternatively, an upgrade of Walker)
-Tootsie

Would love to see The Brood, also would be nice to see Watership Down, but this hasn't been on iTunes long so guess that will probs be a 2015 release?

Barnes and Noble has half off sales twice a year. Also criterion.com has a half off sale coming up. Those are the best time to get some cool box sets.

Im from UK :P so can't take advantage of those! Although I don't mind double dipping and paying full whack, just like to spread it out and get new releases over upgrades, when I am a bit dry on new buys i'll spend some time upgrading

November seems to be the month when they pull all their biggest titles out, my guess would be something like this:

Another Chaplin title (The Circus or a shorts box set with The Kid maybe?)
Tootsie
an unexpected upgrade of some kind
Odd Man Out
and for their big title maybe It Happened One Night

At least thats what my dream november would look like, I just want ONE of these to at least be right (preferably the ones that aren't Tootsie )

This would be a nice lineup. Midnight Cowboy would be a good Criterion release, have there been any hints or anything for it?

Yes please.

Speaking of Chaplin, TCM is showing a full day's worth of Chaplin shorts and features on Thursday the 14th (a day before Criterion announcements). Coincidence? Probably.
