I think the September releases will be announced this morning. Tomorrow is Blu-ray Tuesday so I can see CC giving a day for announcements and a day for releases.

Any theories for September releases? Seven Samurai, Videodrome, The Thin Red Line, Antichrist, Darjeeling Limited are all in the air, and Breathless seems imminent. What else might they announce?

Del Toro's "Cronos" has still yet to receive a date. Also, it's still unknown whether "Hausu" will get a blu-ray or if it will be DVD-only.

And... "Fish Tank," "Still Walking," "Y tu mamá también," and Nolan's "Following" are all possible.

I'd love a better copy of "Following" and "Fish Tank" looks intriguing (very depressing.... right up my alley) But "Still Walking" looks like something a little deeper that I'd love to own personally.....

Following would make me drool. Nolan is my favorite director.

I say Hausu will be a September release.

Here are the picks from announced and rumored titles for the year (could always have surprises though and setbacks.)

THE SEVEN SAMURAI BLU-RAY re-release
BREATHLESS BLU-RAY re-release
DARJEELING LIMITED
VIDEODROME BLU-RAY re-release
FISH TANK
THE THIN RED LINE
Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN
STILL WALKING
ANTICHRIST
MERRY CHRISTMAS MR. LAWRENCE
CHAPLIN FILMS (How Many?)
FOLLOWING
CRONOS
HAUSU
THE FOUR FEATHERS

Stuff that was rumored BUT WAS NEVER CONFIRMED by Criterion:

NEW HOLLYWOOD BOXSET BLU-RAY
CHARADE BLU-RAY re-release
M. HULOT'S HOLIDAY BLU-RAY re-release

So I won't be tempted to spend even more... decided a while back that I finally needed to draw the line somewhere. (Have region free DVD player, know what happens.)

Edit: Once in a while I will import the DVD version while waiting for a region A/free version (e.g., bfi's Red Desert DVD).

If HAUSU is DVD only that is gonna hurt. I would guess the only reason it would be a DVD only release is if their contract for the film was done as DVD only. I have fingers crossed for a Blu release.

Just as everyone is plugging MOC, FA is releasing the 1929 film "Chicago" restored. I read somewhere FA is considering Blu...and if so, that would be so awesome!

For me, it's more or less making sure that I don't go overboard. When I went region free on DVD, I went crazy....I think I may have around 6,000 DVD's (many imports that I have yet to add on DVDAF). It was easier then for me... Just me and the wife. But now with a kid and many other family and financial obligations, a non-region Blu-ray player is probably not a good thing for me.

I want a non-region Blu-ray player but too keep balance within the family and not disrupt it, it's best I don't go there right now.

I think Hausu is October. The rumors said September 7th but usually rumors are half correct.

It will be on Blu-ray. Can't imagine the outcry CC would get if it was announced DVD only.

I knew about the Chicago news, and I thought they decided no blu. I hope they change their mind.

Kndy, do you have the FA release of Phantom and could you tell me if it has a good transfer? I have been wanting it but was thinking if I get a region free player, I might just get the MoC. But if the FA release is good I'll get that one. Thanks.

I hear ya kndy...got two young boys myself at the ripe old age of 51.

It's enough to spend money on Criterion BD releases that I REALLY want, those that I "should" own and those only being released on DVD, that I've got a feeling I'll fall in love with (Night Train to Munich). At least I can justify waiting for the B & N sale in July.

THEN there's the Kino titles that are coming out (already have The General and plan to get Steamboat Bill Jr. in July and of course, Metropolis), plus any others that turn up unexpectedly.

NOW I've got MoC and EUREKA! to add to my list. They just delivered Sunrise today and I half expect to be ordering City Girl before the end of July (or sooner...got to RESIST!).

ADD IN the near future possibilities of the Chaplin titles from Criterion and it becomes really easy to lose control! HELP ME!!!

Hey...any thoughts on this showing up as a Criterion BD in the near future?

Someone on Criterion's facebook asked where is the newsletter and Criterion replied,

Quote:
We're trying something new this month. Stay tuned.
I wonder if they forgot.

Newsletter isn't announcements. The 15th is that day usually. The newsletter gives a clue for a future release that hasn't been rumored yet, like last month's was Breathless on blu.
