Hahaha.

I should add that I'm looking forward to L'Avventura a lot more than I am looking forward to Tootsie. It'll be great to have the "alienation quadrilogy" all on Blu-ray (L'Avventura, La Notte, L'Eclisse, Red Desert).

Ahem...

I know that Red Desert is not officially part of Antonioni's "alienation" movies, but it sometimes seems so.

"Do you expect me to tell you everything I know, goldfinger?!"
"No Mr. Bond, I expect you to be dead soon!"

Classic Bond film.

"No Mr. Bond, I expect you to DIE!"

Im just like, 1. you haven't seen the film 2. you are comparing it film that are not even related and 3. why does it even matter if it wins or doesn't win an oscar!?

Really bugs me how people see Inception and film like that as masterpieces and then they say they can not watch or get bored by films by Tarkovsky, Fellini or Kubrick etc Ok I understand fi they may not like the film but not finding ANYTHING to appreciate :/

I think Interstellar looks great but I'm kinda hoping that it ends like Contact.

Maybe if Criterion released it on blu-ray you would change your opinion.

Quadrilogy is not a word, you mean tetralogy (which maintains a Greek prefix and root).

None of these films share characters, continued stories, etc., so you can watch any or all of them in any order you please.

I should've specified. Their Blu-ray catalogue specifically is mostly not in the realm of mainstream. I have no problems with them releasing more mainstream movies. Tootsie itself still isn't a title known by nearly everyone. I'd be fine if they released Psycho honestly, even though it's already out, if it means it looks and sounds like 5 stars, because I love that movie. But many would be pissed at that, simply because it already has a perfectly good transfer.

YES! Thank you! I was thinking the same thing when seeing youtube comments on the trailer and trailer reactions. My word people, you HAVEN'T seen the movie yet. The people saying that are going to love it no matter what the general reception is.

A Vertigo Criterion, just thinking about it makes me excited. I still don't know whether I should get that BD; there seems to be mixed reviews on the image quality/transfer.

Just cause Criterion would release it on Bluray I still wouldn't compare it 2001 etc

I wouldn't want Criterion to wast resources oaths film when there are many films that are more deserving and in need of an upgrade/release.

But what does Criterion releasing it have to do with anything?

I dont understand the fanboyism with Nolan - yes he is a great director but half these people don't seem to know his original films, I even saw a comment saying 'Nice to see Nolan going back to his roots' - Im like, this is nothing like Memento, Following, Insomnia, Prestige etc etc :/

What about the fanboyism with any other director? Godard, Bergman, Altman, Kubrick, Hitchcock, Spielberg, Scorsese. Etc etc etc.. What's the difference there?

Having now just seen The Sacrifice, I only have Andrei Rublev left. Trying to save what Tarkovsky I have left. I think I'll wait for the Blu on this one.

None

"Fanboyism" is another facet of a relativistic appreciation of an artwork.

But one can be a fan of the theory of Abelian transcendents and not comprehend it.

So at times being a "fan" might come down to vanity. It makes a certain person feel important among a group.

Blu-ray seems inevitable at some point, but it seems a shame to put such a film aside for an unknown amount of time.

The Sacrifice is the last Tarkovsky I have to watch. I think I'll finally get to it sometime this week.

I've been tempted on several occasions, but I've managed to just push it off. His small filmography makes me want to savor what I haven't seen. You're right, though. The Blu release probably won't happen for some time, and I shouldn't wait that long to view what is arguably his most highly regarded film.

I meant it as they claim to be huge fans and obsessed yet they only know a little of the directors work.

Fanboyism isn't a bad thing imo, just wish people who claimed to be a fanboy or fan or w/e educated themselves on the subject matter otherwise they look silly?

Do you understand what's so funny about it though? Cause it's the FBI, right? It has the same logo, the same shield and at first glance you're like 'oh sure, it's a mug that says FBI' but then at second glance you're like 'female body inspector? get out of town, this is outrageous'.
