When I was there a few years ago we stayed walking distance from Scottie Ferguson's (Jimmy Stewart) apartment in Vertigo, so of course I had to walk past. Last year, I think it was, the owners put up an unsightly concrete barrier (to keep ppl like me away - although I was respectful and didn't hover. )

and of course, like a few others have mentioned - there are a lot of great movies w/ SFO as character - Zodiac and The Conversation are two others off the top of my head.

Harold And Maude is. And The Rock.

My favourite on-screen city is Paris, but I think London is fairly ubiquitous too.

The Times of Harvey Milk is a brilliant documentary that's just as much about the city as it is about the man.

That's a great looking package, but (and I hate to say this) I watched Eraserhead a few days ago on Hulu and it didn't do a thing for me. I personally don't care to own it. I'm glad I saw it to satisfy my curiosity, but I feel like I dodged a bullet as far as a blind buy.
I was a big Twin Peaks fan when it was on and I have enjoyed other David Lynch movies, but all through this one I was just not onboard.

The Maltese Falcon is also set in San Francisco.

Watched Dazed and Confused last night for the first time in years and its still a brilliant and highly entertaining film. I totally forgot there are like almost 4 hours of supplements on this Criterion Blu-ray disc! That is astounding. Alright, alright, alright!

I've eyed that title before (Experiment in Terror)... would definitely like to see it some time, but have been scared away by the TT SRP.

time to watch my blu-ray, I think!! it's been too long since the last time I saw it.

The Birds is also in SFO (partly) when Tippi Hedren crosses the street outside the pet store, she's kitty-corner from Union Square where the conversation is happening in The Conversation

One great 'city as character' film in the CC is Memphis in Mystery Train

Take this with a grain of salt but it was in the comments over at thedissolve.com:

http://thedissolve.com/news/3107-rea...ent-1570991497

In Blu-Ray news, Terry Gilliam, while at something called DragonCon, confirmed that he and Criterion are working on a release of The Fisher King, and they're just about done with the transfer.

An individual who was at DragonCon confirmed that Gilliam explained he was going to go to London post-conference to finalize a couple of things for the release.

I am taking a History of Film course this semester at my college, which counts towards my film major. This section of the course focuses on everything up to the 1950s, while a second section is offered at a later date, and focuses on everything afterwards.

According to the course syllabus, we will be screening excerpts from a variety of films during each of our class meetings. These films, however, will be screened in their entirety over the course of the semester.

The Birth of a Nation
It Happened One Night
The Kid
M
Midnight Ramble
The Mortal Storm
The Passion of Joan of Arc
Steamboat, Bill Jr.
Strike!
Sunset Boulevard

I have only seen It Happened One Night, The Kid, M, and Sunset Boulevard, so I am eager to see the other ones for the first time.

We had our first meeting today and almost a good two hours was spent listening to a monotonous voice preach about Edison's kinetoscope and The Lumičre Brothers' cinematographe. Here's to hoping that the professor decides to spice up future meetings.

Finally watched my first Bruņel: Belle de Jour. Really enjoyed every scene.
[Show spoiler]There is the obvious influence on Nymphomaniac, and it was an interesting situation to seeing these movies out of chronological order.
I was struck by fleeting similarities between Belle and Rosemary's Baby
[Show spoiler]-- the daydream sequences and some of the moving camera work.
But, I assume Rosemary's Baby was already in post production by the time this movie was screened.

Looking forward to more Bruņel. I'm thinking The Exterminating Angel next.

Hitchcock mentions in his Dick Cavett interview that Buņel is a director he really admired. That triggered a little kick for me recently. I LOVED That Obscure Object of Desire and highly recommend that.

Would Criterion's Monterey Pop Festival count? Monterey is about 113 miles south of San Francisco.

No one -- NO ONE -- should go his or her life without seeing this masterpiece. All one needs do is look to Godard's Vivre Sa Vie to see how much he thought of it.

It's what I've heard. I used to have it on my DVR, but I deleted it to free up space. I noticed it is on Hulu, hence why my decision was rather easy.

I have seen Bresson's The Trial of Joan of Arc, but I can't imagine it coming close to The Passion.
