During the height of DVD's the studios wanted to release their own films. Now they could care less about catalog titles. During the LD days only film enthusiasts wanted films widescreen, Criterion also catered to film lovers who wanted films in the correct aspect ratio.

Criterion has always embraced Hollywood titles as much as has they have the Art House titles. Regardless of what some people think Tootsie is a highly regarded film. But I guess if it was in another language like La Cage aux Folles which is a French mainstream film, it would be okay.

How is Sweet Movie? I have the Czech New Wave Eclipse set that I have also been meaning to dig into. Daisies seems like it could be cool.

It's out there for sure. Maybe I wasn't as shocked by it as some others were. Perhaps by seeing something like Pink Flamingos and Salo the one sequence didn't bother me. It was an earlier one

You're welcome. It's a treat for me to get into the Way-Back Machine and be able to share seeing some of these older titles at the time of their theatrical release.

Remember that Instagram photo that Criterion posted a week or two back with hints of "The Man Who Fell To Earth" and "The Complete Mr. Arkadin"?

Well apparently there's also hints for "Burden Of Dreams" with the booklet being partially shown in a corner.

I don't think a hint is necessary considering Criterion.com still explicitly states that it's coming.

I'll be buying the new version as well.

Good call - yes there is. Here's the photo link for anyone wishing to have a reminder: http://instagram.com/p/sk76ckyzaE - the brown one at the bottom looks identical to the one found in the Burden of Dreams DVD set. The one just poking out of the corner is less obvious though!

take a look at dvdbeaver first... that set is rather horrible encoded...
