it might just be that I relish in being a contrarian... I did really like Elevator to the Gallows, but I'd probably rank it 3rd, maybe 4th out of the 5 Malle films I've seen. I'm pimping the avatar, but it's more for Jeanne Moreau than for the film.
been thinking if I'd rush to pick it up if it were released... don't know that I would. |

Still slowly making my way through the set, and yes, the criticisms of the picture quality are warranted. Wishing every day that Criterion could have gotten the rights instead of Shout, as I'd been requesting Herzog's films to them for years. However, I'm happy to actually have these films on Blu-ray finally. |

My December Predictions:
The Shop Around the Corner (A great Christmas-themed film) Andrei Rublev (My upgrade prediction) Tabu (Criterion needs some Murnau) Fellini Satyricon (A film which was recently hinted) Detour (My "out-of-leftfield" pick) |

I got it on preorder for $85 ish and have been enjoying it. The packaging is really nice and i have (so far) been fine with the visuals. I'll probably pick up the BFI set as well once I can get it for $60-$65 on Base.com. Since that one isn't limited like the Shout set I don't feel the same need to get it right away. |

I don't know why it came up to me now, but I'd love it if Criterion released Tchaikovsky (1969).
here's the trailer: http://www.kinopoisk.ru/film/45433/video/42264/ |

![]() yes, he's my favourite classical music composer too. The film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign film. I really don't like those Ken Russel musical biographies. They're weird! |

Thanks, I'll probably pick up the BFI collection when I go region-free (sometime next year probably), especially since it also includes Burden of Dreams. There are quite a few region B titles that I'd like to pick up when I do make the move.

Yesterday in my class it was Wild Strawberries. I gotta say, this was one I was really looking forward to, and I wasn't as into this one as the other 2 Bergman films. Idk, it was a little boring and uninteresting, though it did have many great scenes in it. The first dream scene is incredible. But when the film ended, I just didn't feel that satisfied. Some of it was a little confusing too, with exactly who certain characters were in relation to Isak and the importance of certain flashbacks. I really liked some of the dialogue exchanges, particularly between Isak and Marianne (the beautiful Ingrid Thulin). I've only seen 3 Bergman movies, but at this point I'd have to say Wild Strawberries is at the bottom. I'd probably give it a 3.5/5
Anyone know the significance of the title btw? |

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I was wondering which ones of the following Criterion DVD titles are most likely to get a blu-ray upgrade in the near future (or, probably more easily, which ones aren't likely to get it at all).
These are films that either I've never seen and I'm much intrigued by, or titles that I loved quite a lot and I'd like to acquire in digital format. Blast of Silence The Most Dangerous Game The Scarlet Empress Lady Eve Le Trou Sullivan's Travels Grisbi The Killers (both the 1946 Siodmak's and the 1964 Siegel's version) The Flowers of St Francis Au Hasard Balthazar Thieves' Highway Harlan County A Canterbury Tale La Ronde Make Way for Tomorrow Roberto Rossellini's War Trilogy Maybe some of you can help, I'm sort of a newbie here. Much obliged, thank you. ![]() |

Au Hasard Balthazar and Roberto Rossellini's War Trilogy are coming. AHB just because the film is regarded so highly and the latter because I'm pretty sure there have been hints that it is for fact coming. I'm fairly sure that Le Trou is considered Becker's best, so I would think that this will come, too. |

Fairly certain they no longer have the rights to these two.
