Maybe it's just me, but for me it's thoroughly weird to think Bergman was alive seven years ago. Just something about his films makes me associate him with the older filmmakers of the 20s and 30s who've been long-gone and the idea that he lived well into the 21st century seems odd.

I don't feel the same way about Antonioni, oddly enough, given his work only started a decade or so later and he died the same day as Bergman.

There's some priced low like Blue Is The Warmest Color (22.49), so there could be deals with the right combinations.

This is the cheapest combination I found:

Gate of Hell-26.99
Blue Is The Warmest Color-22.49
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button-20.99(free)

Total=49.48/3=16.49 for each pre-tax

Yes, but that is not an especially good deal at all, given you can literally get the same exact combination from Amazon for $2 cheaper.

True, but free shipping for members + coupon may negate Amazon's 2 buck difference as well. Personally, I think I'll wait for Criterion's expected flash sale or Barnes & Noble 50% off sale in November.

I hear ya on this point... I was watching some kind of special on TCM and there was a modern clip where Kurosawa was honored at some kind of awards show and I literally said aloud: "wow! Kurosawa!" as this aging man walked up to the podium.. typing this and recalling gave me chills

I'm wondering about something...

If Criterion throws a Flash Sale again on October 1 or at some point in the next week or two, and I were to order Eraserhead from this sale, then do you think that Criterion will send my Blu-ray set with the corrected disc?

If I do place such an order, I might write a note in my order asking for the corrected version, if it is possible to do so.

It's currently on "Backordered" status until the corrected version is available. Since they only sell in-stock inventory during the flash sale would it even be available?

Eraserhead is not currently available from Criterion.com, and I'm guessing it won't be until they can ship it with the new discs.

Edit: Thanks Hoytereden

What is up with David Lynch's flawed blu-ray releases lately?

Not just is Eraserhead a flawed disc but the new Twin Peaks box set had audio synch problems. Did Lynch intentionally want this to happen to mess with our minds?

Is it just me or are there more blu-ray releases these days that have technical problems? I think the quality control is going downhill because companies want to rush out and make money and they forget about being careful.

The only David Lynch Blu-ray that I currently own is Dune. The 1980s kid in me still believes that this is the best Lynch movie by a long mile.

I've had a hankering to see Eraserhead lately, though, because I keep seeing it on horror movie best-of lists, and, although it does not strike me as an outright horror movie, I have a feeling that it'll be a strong October flick.

Yay. It will freak you out.

I was going to buy The Innocents today, but the Barnes & Noble down the street is out. I'm going to a different store location tomorrow morning, because I'm going to be in that area having some work done on my truck, so I'm hoping to buy it then.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this one stacks up to my old DVD.

TCM sent out an email today for 25% off (code: SORRY25). They still have their Criterions on sale so even those at $26 each wind up at $20.

I picked up the following:
- Riot In Cell Block 11 $14.24
- L'Eclisse $20.24
- Ali: Fear Eats the Soul $20.24
- Macbeth $20.24
- Jacques Demy set $62.99
- The Innocents $20.24
- The Vanishing $20.24

Lynch's Dune is one of his weakest films, but its still better than 80% of today's science fiction. Obviously if Alejandro Jodorowsky had been able to make his vision of Dune, it would have been most likely spectacular.

My top 10 David Lynch films are:

1. Blue Velvet
2. Mulholland Drive
3. The Straight Story
4. The Elephant Man
5. Eraserhead
6. Inland Empire
7. Lost Highway
8. Wild at Heart
9. Dune
10. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me

ps. I have a hankering to see The Elephant Man again (been like 15 years since I saw it)
