No worries. I have it on good authority that Waterworld will be included in the New Hollywood Box Set with special guess commentary by Dennis Hopper who refers to the film as the finest acting job of his career.

I think I've stirred up a bit of dust before with my distrust of CC... I've said several times that I would never advocate the blind-buying of a CC film...

However, I'm gonna eat my words with Charade and say that I'd recommend it to any- and everyone.

Those are great reads, very interesting to see. Thanks a lot for posting!

I really like these alternate covers :

But overall, I'm really glad with the covers they chose.

Also, excited for September, hopefully we get a nice discount code from Criterion, or some low pre-order prices from Amazon.

I do like that Stagecoach cover more than what they went with.

EDIT: Sorry for some reason I thought Everlasting Moments came out a long time ago. Completely forgot it came out in 2008.
I believe he also has an essay in the Revanche insert.

I think deep discount had been lurking us and seen all our hate, as i just received an email specifically for criterion's being an extra 25% off. I know most everyone is opposed to them by now, but figured I'd share the link in case anyone was interested. I've ordered from them before and, like most of you, have had the awful extended "media mail" shipping, sometimes even forgetting I had ordered something in the first place.

http://www.deepdiscount.com/index.cf...ltsPerPage=250

coupon code for it is gray1

pretty sure it's the same sale that has been going on, but thought it was funny that they specified criterions in the email.

Why does people like that alt. Stagecoach cover? It's not a Warhol film, and pop art was at it's peak about 30 years after that film. It was stupid enough to have it in the inside. I love Warhol and love John Ford, just not together. Criterion needs to release Warhol films, not make others look like his art.

With that being said, I love what they went with. Big landscape, with an old western feel, the font, etc. Didn't need John Wayne's face covering it. Love the green color too.

Not really familiar with Warhol. Thought he was just a painter rather than filmmaker. I just liked that Stagecoach cover because it looks cool. Though there's nothing srong with the actual cover Criterion went with for that film.

This is Warhol's:

As for films I want of Warhols', I still would like to see Chelsea Girls released in any way on R1 dvd.

Janus has 18 Chaplins touring through the US with new 35mm prints. Can this mean more Chaplin's in store for Blu or Eclipse from Criterion?

Well I can see blus 100% for 6 of the titles listed (The Kid, City Lights, Modern Times, The Great Dictator, The Gold Rush and The Circus). Now I don't know if those could be spread throughout time or boxed together, but all I know is Criterion has alot of Chaplin titles and could release them once a month for the next year if they wanted (but I do see box sets coming Eclipse or mainline).

If this is true then Amazon will most likely counter with a $15-$19 sale.

I sure hope so, 'coz I missed the one in October-November last year. (Actually, I just started collecting Blu-rays then and thought that $15-$19 was normal for Criterions. Doh!)

Saw the BD of Mystery Train last night from netflix. I have seen it once in the past and just could not get into it. This time around was even worse. I am a big character watcher and if the characters do not spur me on to care about them, the story goes south. It's funny, because Jarmusch is big into characters. I think he did a boring job here. I usually never blind buy movies I am on the fence about and this one was one of them. Thankfully I saved my money. The movie looks great, but the sound, especially considering all the music in the movie, was not very good. I had to constantly turn up the volume and then down again. Balance was not the best. I hope others find the film more entertaining than I do, but that is my take on it.

I think that you have to be a fan of Jarmusch films to really appreciate them. This is one film that both my wife and I enjoy...she actually turned me on to Jarmusch.

Glad to hear that the PQ is good...I'm prepared for the fact that the AQ is mono and won't be near reference...as long as the dialogue is clear, I'm fine.

The fact that AQ got a 4.0 rating tells me that the sound is at least fair to good. "...I don't have any major reservations with the English LPCM 1.0 track. Mystery Train is primarily a dialog-driven feature, and as far as I am concerned, the quality of the dialog is exceptionally strong. As expected, the dynamic amplitude of the English LPCM 1.0 track is rather limited. Finally, while viewing Mystery Train, I did not detect any disturbing pops, cracks, or hissings to report in this review."

Received my copy from Amazon on Tuesday...will probably watch this weekend (when I can corral my wife to sit down ).
