I agree...... Just like "By Brakhage" I really enjoy these "other" case styles...... The packaging would never cause to me to, or not to, buy a film, but it's a nice added bonus that Criterion has such classy packaging (the art is debatable of course)

By the way, I may have mentioned it before, but I find your user-name brilliant and hysterical at the same time.

EDIT:

all caught up again..... had to re-order "Bigger than Life" since it has gone missing

The fact that AQ got a 4.0 rating tells me that the sound is at least fair to good. "...I don't have any major reservations with the English LPCM 1.0 track. Mystery Train is primarily a dialog-driven feature, and as far as I am concerned, the quality of the dialog is exceptionally strong. As expected, the dynamic amplitude of the English LPCM 1.0 track is rather limited. Finally, while viewing Mystery Train, I did not detect any disturbing pops, cracks, or hissings to report in this review."

Received my copy from Amazon on Tuesday...will probably watch this weekend (when I can corral my wife to sit down ).
you know, I've seen Broken Flowers before and thought it wasn't bad. I read some reviews this morning on mystery train and just do not see the love for it. As the old phrase goes; "to each his own" I guess.

That's why I don't lend mine out Beta Man!

Rented "Bigger Than Life" from NetFlix and LOVED it...I've decided to wait for the B & N sale in July to add any older/newer titles. The only ones recently have been Mystery Train (I'm a big fan of that film) and The Man Who Fell to Earth, as I'm afraid that stock will get short on me, if I don't.

AGREED!

And by your avatar, I can tell that you're a fan of Wim Wenders and specifically "Paris, Texas"...which by the way, could be my favorite Criterion release. But I'll guess that it might not be everyone's cup of tea either.

I also don't mind the digibooks/paks - IF they're not flimsy, and if they're the same size as the regular releases, which both the Brakhage and Leopard sets are, being the same size on the shelf as the 2-disc Monterey Pop, Che, etc.

Warner's digibooks are a bit annoying in regards to being a bit too big for my liking, but at least they're sturdy, which is more than can be said for Criterion's first blu-ray packages.

I think Paris,Texas is very different from Wings. Paris,Texas is not my favorite CC release, dvd or BD, but I am not a big fan of Wings. Again, I am big into the character development and Wings just did not do it for me. Strangely, I strongly dislike In the Realm of the Senses from Oshima, but love Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence and will be picking this up day one. Sometimes I think directors, in general, try many different things, some good and some bad, and the critics and viewers have this notion that all their work is generally consistent. I disagree. Sometimes a director goes a little farther than his style or creativity allows and people just chalk it up to creative genius.

Does anyone have a link for those threads from other sites that do the Criterion fan based cover artwork? I was checking out the Criterion Forum but I must be blind.

I hate to tell you this but stop loaning things to this person. If they claim to have given it back but you KNOW they didn't, they're stealing from you. I'm incredibly hestitant to loan things to people because I'm very anal about the condition of the disc/case/inserts/etc and many people aren't that way but if I loaned something to someone and they "lost" it, there's no way they'll ever get anything from me again.
