Could not be more excited. Malick's films are made for blu-ray.

You can do both. Take advantage of both in-store and online coupons that should be available by the time you arrive in the US.

But to be safe, perhaps the in-store is more convenient and you will get a chance to see what you want and the condition of the packaging if needed.

If you have status with the hotel you are staying with, definitely have them delivered there. You'll want to talk to the concierge or manager first. Otherwise you'll need to risk the store's selection, but I wouldn't risk it with a hotel that views you as dispensable, which is to say anyone that you don't have status with

Thanks for the numerous replies.
I'll consider both options if the order can be delivered to the hotel. (don't know any person who lives in the area) That means if the shopping fever doesn't get a hold of me when I'm finally able to see all the Criterions in front of me

From Criterion's FAQ page on their site...

Quote:
28. I want to replace my Criterion Collection DVDs with new Blu-ray editions. Do you have an upgrade program?

We offer a $20 Blu-ray upgrade program for customers who have already bought the equivalent edition on DVD. Just mail your disc, along with a check or money order for $20 (plus $5 shipping and handling), made payable to the Criterion Collection, to:

The Criterion Collection
Attn: Jon Mulvaney
215 Park Avenue South, Fifth Floor
New York, NY 10003

You can also pay by PayPal by making a payment to store@criterion.com (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover welcome). Please include a printout of your Paypal receipt with your disc.

Be sure to include your U.S. or Canadian mailing address inside the package, as we cannot ship outside North America. Please also include your e-mail address in case we need to contact you. You can send in your disc for exchange anytime, but we won’t be sending out the Blu-ray discs until their release dates.

If you exchange multiple DVD editions at the same time, you only need to pay for shipping once. But your order will not be shipped until all the Blu-ray discs have been released.

We’ll mail the Blu-ray disc in a sleeve, and you’ll be able to place the new disc in your existing packaging. This offer applies only to like editions. For example, you can return disc one of the rerelease of The Seventh Seal but not the earlier, out-of-print edition.

If you have any questions about the Blu-ray upgrade offer, please e-mail Jon Mulvaney at mulvaney@criterion.com. We reserve the right to change or discontinue this program at any time.
So, if you really wanna pay $25 just for the blu-ray disc, then by all means, go for it. You'll still be stuck with your current DVD packaging, but you'd have a blu-ray to put inside it.

You should search the B&N stores located near your hotel and give them a call. I'm sure they can give you a general idea of the Criterion selection at their store. If you want something specific you can probably have them order it ahead of time.

Criterions are the only media product I buy at my local B&N. They probably have the best selection in Chicago. I might end up completing my BD Criterion Collection during this sale.

Just saw both Thin Red Line and Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence on the release calendar. Very happy indeed!

Considering buying Pierrot le fou on the criterion website for 26.95 while it's still in print. How fast is Criterion's shipping usually?

Great movie - and their shipping is very fast (in my experience).

Yep agreed. If you spend $50 Shipping is free. UPS ground shipping is the standard. It generally takes between 1 to 3 days for items to arrive at my house. I pre-order all of the blu-ray titles from their website and I'll usually have them at least 1 day BEFORE they are officially released.

Wow, I should pre-order from them from now on instead of relying on Best Buy or Barnes & Noble.
