I keep all of my Alfred Hitchcock Blu-rays together, I keep all of my Jean-Pierre Melville Blu-rays together, I keep all of my Terrence Malick Blu-rays together, I keep all of my Charlie Chaplin Blu-rays together, I keep all of my Michelangelo Antonioni Blu-rays together, and I keep my James Bond Blu-rays together. I also tend to keep my classic-era film noirs close together.

Other than that, it's all random. My Akira Kurosawa Blu-rays are all over the place, and I should remedy that sometime, as well as my Otto Preminger stuff.

There's no rhyme or reason to my organization. I simply place my Blu-rays in boxes by order of purchase, but occasionally group them after the fact if it is easy to do so.

Oh, and I keep my Charles Laughton film collection in one place as well.

With the talk of Criterion's flash-sale, does anyone know if it has been officially announced anywhere? Or is this just their usual time, like in February?

Thanks!

I believe that they had a Flash Sale in late September the year before last, and they had one on October 1 last year. Other than that, nothing has been announced, and we're all just going on assumption.

Criterion has been swamped with the Eraserhead problem lately, and they're currently getting swamped with the "disc bronzing" issue, so these things may or may not influence the decision to have another sale this time around. I dunno.

If Eraserhead is back in stock on Criterion's website, does that mean it's the corrected copy?

I don't recall saying that I cared about that.

I did say that I like to support them. You didn't include the portion of my post that points out that the end cost for me is enough in the same neighborhood of the B&N prices to be negligible in my opinion, and when the prices are similar, it's nice to know 100% of my funds are going to Criterion.

I also don't have to drive to B&N, hope they have my titles in stock, wait in line, print coupons, find parking, explain why a coupon should be honored...

I utilize both sales heavily. They each have advantages.

Nothing official, but it lines up roughly with previous sales, and the site was down yesterday for maintenance (which has occurred the day before previously flash sales).

There was also some common sense reasoning to think they wouldn't be selling Eraserhead again on their site until they could include corrected discs, and wouldn't have the sale until it was back in stock. They started selling Eraserhead again starting yesterday.

Both are reasonable, so I guess we wait!

Thanks!

With Eraserhead back in stock, I wouldn't be surprised to see one happen pretty soon. That's probably what they've been waiting on. The disc bronzing issues shouldn't effect their distribution center in Kentucky.

Unless your B&N is insanely strict about percentage coupons (which most aren't) or you don't have any in your area, it's ALWAYS better to wait for the B&N sales, which is why I never really understood why people got so excited for the flash sales. With a 15% coupon from hariseldon, it brings the price to $16.99 for most titles. If you're a member, it comes down even more. I'm usually able to use a $5 off $50, which means if I buy 4 titles in store the per movie cost $14.04 each. I have been able to do this the last several years.

Obviously if you're not a member, you won't get the price down that much, but most will still take the 15% off coupon. So yeah, I'm sitting this one out. November is right around the corner.
Don't forget that if you use your B&N MasterCard, you get an additional 5% taken off.

Hey, every little bit counts!

Back when I was single and had my own place, I would keep films by favorite directors together. The exception would be Criterion releases, which were all together and shelved by spine number. On the laserdisc shelves, there would also be exceptions for other imprints, like Image/Turner's RKO Classic Collection or the MGM/UA boxed sets and double features.

My B&N doesn't sell movies and when I've ordered Criterions online from B&N, they usually don't come in very good condition.

I order from B&N from Greece, and they always come in perfect condition in a large box.

Not Criterion related, but that reminds me of when Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon opened in theaters. As soon as the first subtitle hit the screen, a girl a few rows in front of me yelled out, "What, I gotta read?! On my birthday! Oh hell no!" She and the two people she was with then got up and walked out. Crazy.

I'm actually a bit pleased if it's moved to next week on Tuesday or Thursday, as there's a good chance La Dolce Vita will be in stock by then. Yes it's only a few weeks out from the BN sale but to get it sooner would be a treat.
