Criterion may dip into more mainstream Hollywood titles again since the studios are losing interest.

I'm still guessing tomorrow will be the announcements. I am hoping for either Elevator to the Gallows or Hiroshima, mon amour.
Hiroshima mon amour.

We should be so lucky.

The restored print opens tomorrow in Los Angeles. The Blu ray has to be coming at some point in 2015.

I wouldn't say that that is literally true. But I will say that there's a law of diminishing returns in action. By which I mean that LD was a bigger leap from Beta/VHS than DVD was from LD, and BD was from DVD.

As much as I love buying Blu-rays, and even replacing DVD titles with them, I don't get the thrill out of them that I remember getting whenever I got home from Sight & Sound with a new batch of LDs.

That's good news. Welp, yet another upgrade, which means my public library inherits yet another DVD.

I would be shocked if Criterion delayed until Thursday because of a holiday that hardly anyone even knows exists. Well, I'd be dismayed too.

ETA: Oh, and there was no mail delivery.
Yes, I think Columbus day (which was Monday) is a major holiday celebrated around first world countries worldwide but I would assume its mostly known in the USA. I feel that if the holiday is major enough that there isn't mail delivery and government institutions are closed, it might be enough for Criterion to count that as a "real" holiday and wait until Thursday. Just sayin'....

No, there isn't. Columbus Day (which the Post Office and schools take off, but not most corporate entities) was yesterday. There's no holiday tomorrow.

I think someone suggested that Monday being Columbus Day might push the announcements off by another day, but as far as I know, holidays only affect the announcements if the holiday is on the 15th itself, or if the 15th is on the weekend and the following Monday (which the announcements would be pushed to) is a holiday.

Last year Columbus Day fell on Monday the 14th and the announcements came on Wednesday the 16th.

I'm not necessarily expecting a delay but I wouldn't be totally shocked either.

That's what I mean... I remember last year this happened, so I would "expect nothing" for tomorrow.

I'm probably still going to be in training tomorrow during the afternoon, so I can wait until the 16th for announcements if they hold them back.

Announcement hopefuls...

Not entirely Criterion oriented, but I just got these together to take to the public library and donate tomorrow since I've upgraded all of them (or will have in a few days):

Not exactly sure why it's blurry. But parting with that beautiful Pandora's Box set is difficult.

Umm, ooopsie. That Pandora's Box that I ordered was the DVD. I thought they had a new BD release for some reason (it was the same price as the BD of The Innocents, and I clearly wasn't paying attention).

Oh, well. The library still gets my old copy I guess. I'm just out $20 for buying the same exact thing I already owned.

Ordering Fail.

I found the Criterion DVD set of Pandora's Box at Movie Stop for $2.99 a few months ago.

It's a fine film that is used to great effect in Blue is the Warmest Color.

I think it's great that you've decided to donate these to the public library but before you do, you should know that some of the bonus features on these DVDs weren't carried over to the Blu-Rays.

Nice! I've been in contact with Mulvaney before, I thought he handled all these issues.
