Blind Chance – Kieslowski (1981)
A Short Film About Killing - Kieslowski (1987)

Are part of Martin Scorcese Presents Masterpieces of Polish Cinema currently touring the US (along with Ashes and Diamonds and 18 other incredible films) resto by The Film Foundation (that's where Cannes got it). I am very much hoping that all or nearly all of these films make it into the collection, possibly in sets like the WCF.

Something that's missing from your summary is the negative on Glauber Rocha and Theo Angelopoulos (though a little Silver lining, it sounded like someone has a deal for Angelopoulos, just not Criterion).

What intrigues me more than anything is the mention of the possibility of pre-code Warner Bros. in the Collection.

Public Enemy, Little Caesar, and The Jazz Singer have already received impressive Blu-ray releases straight from Warner, so what else have we got...?

I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932)
Blonde Crazy (1931)
Baby Face (1933)
Night Nurse (1931)
Illicit (1931)
Three on a Match (1932)
The Doorway to Hell (1930)
Footlight Parade (1933)
...and a few others

Convention City (1933) was supposedly lost forever, but it would be a major coup for Criterion if a surviving print were to be found.

At any rate, I'd love to see some early Barbara Stanwyck or early Joan Blondell in the Collection.

I can't imagine that CC will release fewer than 3 volumes. If you exlude Yang, that would be at or around 15 of the 19 films listed as restored on WCF's website (nothing happened this year, really?). I guess the number has always been up in the air, but I'm really curious what caused MoC's delay and if that same agent caused the CC "delay". Got my fingers crossed for tomorrow.

This is some great news with Warner Bros. and Criterion working together again. I'm very excited to hear of these directors returning. I definitely want an artwork book of Criterion films but hopefully it goes all the way back to the laserdisc days.

I just need those 3 films I mentioned previously. Outside of those 3, the Koker trilogy, the ATG Oshima films, and the unreleased Ozu they have, i think that is literally all I'm looking forward to from them. They said no to my Terayama question last year, now no to my Rocha question. Striking out here.

Yeah. I guess it takes a while to assemble a Criterion box set of Pre-Code Barbara Stanwyck and Joan Blondell.

(This is purely wishful thinking. Not to be taken as a release rumor.)

Don't know that it's based on anything but wishful thinking, but the title a lot of folks have in mind is Browning's Freaks. The trouble with teasing WB is you're talking about such a vast library, it could be anything. And Octagon is correct, same tease last year.

I'm not sure of Criterion's relationship with Disney so unsure about them getting The Straight Story. They had gotten the rights to stream his cartoon shorts Dumbland on Hulu so possibly that although those most likely would be a supplemental feature to something. I can see Inland Empire being released by them.

I would love The New World in the Criterion Collection as its probably my all time favorite Malick film.

I totally missed the Wexner conference... was eating dinner! but thanks to iScottie's summary, I know a bit more now!

I have this mental image in my head of a Criterion Blu-ray of Freaks being placed in the Criterion Closet, as the other titles start chanting, "We accept you! One of us! One of us! One of us!"

Good to know, thanks. I certainly wouldn't say no to a set of Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive, and Inland Empire, as the three do form a thematic trilogy of sorts.

She also mentioned a new restoration of Sullivan's Travels, which seemed to suggest it would be coming soon.

Things kind of timed themselves perfectly these last couple of days. Finally received my copy of Eraserhead from the TCM sale (it's the second pressing, so the wait was frustrating but worth it) yesterday, received my copy of All That Jazz from the Flash Sale today, as well as the vinyl that Mondo released of the Looper score. All 3 are very pretty.

Plus Wexner rumors and announcements! Great time to be into movies (and have a birthday coming up ).
