My Winnipeg sounds fun, but I can't imagine it being a film we'd rewatch, so hopefully I can get a chance to see it now that I've heard of it.

Pretty sure The Sword of Doom wouldn't be either.
The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant and The Sword of Doom are available to watch on Hulu (if you have the service). Also, My Winnipeg can be seen via Amazon Instant Video for $2.99.

Sadly I am in Australia and don't have access to any of that.

Yeah, there are work arounds, but our government is working on stamping those out too.

But, hey - I already have more media than I can actually keep up with!

Tell me about it.

Luckily there haven't been too many titles released lately that have interested me enough to buy. Heck, I'm still working on things I purchased years ago!

As a Canadian who was born in Winnipeg, My Winnipeg is a very nice surprise.
La Cienaga looks very interesting as well. I think it will include a short film or another feature film since "Little Something Extra" shows up in its Explore section.

For anyone who picked up Eraserhead at the flash sale, does it only say second printing on the disc, our does it mention it on the outer packaging as well?

On mine, the "second printing" text only appears on the disc. The package reads, "First printing 2014."

Some great announcements!

Sword of Doom is a must have! Love this film.

More Fassbinder! (The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant)

Preston Sturges! (The Palm Beach Story)

Also it is great to see Criterion release a film from South America (La Cienaga). That is seriously one area that I feel Criterion is lacking. Not enough films from Latin America. At least an Eclipse box-set or three would be nice. There are quite a few Latin American film directors and their works that would make great additions to the Criterion Collection in my opinion.

It's a bit disengenius to be advertising Sword of Doom as a Mifune film. His involvement is little more than what I would consider a cameo. That said, Nakadai is worth the price of admission alone.

I really hope we are getting closer to a Kwaidan blu-ray release.

Well, well, a lot to catch up on.

The January releases are a mixed bag for me. The only film out of the lot that I've seen was My Winnipeg, and I was able to see it in theaters when it was released in 2007. I'm not a Guy Maddin fan but I thought it was an interesting but strange film. I think the Preston Sturges film is a big addition to the blu-ray part of the collection but I'm not sure how interested I'll be in owning that. Not really interested in La Ciénaga. I'm curious about the Okamoto film though. The Fassbinder movie is probably the only one I'll go for though.

I'm loving the cover art for The Palm Beach Story and My Winnipeg though.

The Palm Beach Story!!!!
I was literally just saying to myself during that Q&A that I need to start harassing them for that title, and now I don't have to
Totally in for Sword Of Doom despite the massive blue balls from the ending.
Been meaning to check out the Bitter Tears Of Petra Von Kant as well.

I'm just wild about The Palm Beach Story, one of my all-time favorite comedies right up there with The Lady Eve. I've predicted this one a couple times in the past too, the Criterion gods heard my prayers!

Sword of Doom upgrade!

Another Fassbinder!

Guy Maddin on Blu-ray!

Preston Sturges on Blu-ray!
(In case anyone missed a previous post of mine, the Sturges-written-but-not-directed Remember the Night is being released on Blu-ray under the TCM Vault Collection label on 11/3.)

La ciénaga / Lucrecia Martel is the only one of the January films or directors I'm not familiar with. But it looks interesting.

Friendly word of caution, Snicket, I wouldn't pick up My Winnipeg as a blind-buy. It has it's fans (someone here described it as a 'surreal gem') but I'd have to respectfully disagree. I actually lived in Winnipeg for a few years and have wonderful memories of the city but the film did not reflect either my experience or the ethos of the city in the least. I watched it on cable with high anticipation and expectation and ended up pulling it after a half-hour and dismissing it as a very bad, rather twisted flight of a high-school project participant's imagination. But that's only one opinion.

A Criterion selection. Really?

Not a regular in this thread so bear over with me;

Any word on a future Human Condition blu-ray? Its at the very top of my "to watch" list but I've been waiting for a blu-ray release because of the price of the set, and because Harakiri is now one of my favorite movies.
