Do you have a link for that video? I saw he made a Top 10 list but can find nowhere anything about him actually being in the closet.

A while back someone posted something off of Criterion's Facebook page about them getting the rights to Mulholland Dr., but I am worried that it's not going to happen since it was such a long time ago.

Finally got around to watching SCANNERS for the first time, and was pleasantly surprised. Somehow I was reminded a bit of WORLD ON A WIRE and various other 70s-80s sci-fi. More intriguing and entertaining than VIDEODROME or NAKED LUNCH, both of which are remarkable in their own ways, I'd place it among Cronenberg's best early work and well up in his entire output. His masterpiece for me remains DEAD RINGERS, but I like his version of THE FLY a lot, and have found some of his newer films quite impressive and very different from his earlier work. A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE and A DANGEROUS METHOD, for example, both deserve wider acclaim.

So, it looks like most Criterion horror movies are on sale right now on amazon? Kuroneko is the only one I haven't seen. I haven't seen much discussion about it, either - anyone have any input? The review makes it sound interesting.

Sadly, I already OWN all of the others other than Antichrist and The Uninvited, too.

Mauvais Sang Blu-ray

A quick note that the new 2K restorations of Leos Carax's first two films are coming to the U.S. (and the Mauvais Sang disc has Tessa Louise-Salomé's documentary Mister X). The restorations are terrific.

You can see where the inspiration for a certain sequence in Frances Ha came from.

Kuroneko is awesome. It's a a revenge fantasy horror film, and is best watched late at night, in the dark, for ultimate creepage. It's beautifully shot too.

You also don't own Salo, which many would consider a horror film as well.

Kuroneko would make an excellent addition to anyone's film library. A shame that Onibaba still has not made it to Blu-ray. Although it is on DVD and Hulu Plus via Criterion.

Also, it surprises me how many quality horror films Criterion has in their collection. Its really great to see.

Finally, I also own almost all of the titles on sale as well. Except for Scanners. Might place an order for that one since I have Amazon Prime and just got a $6 Amazon credit for completing an on-line survey.

To those excited about this, or Boy Meets Girl which comes out the same day, they can be pre-ordered through the end of the day from Blowitoutahere.com for about $20.50 and $15.50 respectively using the promo code HALLOWEEN2014. Those are the cheapest prices I found.

Oops, sorry, I was getting mixed up. It's the top 10 that he did, not the closet visit.

Oh, I was just talking about the ones on sale. Salo is one I have no interest in owning, though. I watched it back in college when I was on one of those quests to see all the movies that were labelled "most disturbing ever." I mostly just found it incredibly boring, I guess that flatly staged poop-eating is not something that offends me. The only thing that really upset me was one really graphic rape shot at the end. It's not a movie I would ever watch again. There are some other Criterion horror movies they don't have on sale here, too, like Naked Lunch, Seconds, Night of the Hunter, and Diabolique.

Thanks, I'm going to buy Kuroneko, I have liked most Japanese horror movies I've seen over the years. Kwaidan is still probably my favorite that I've seen, I really can't wait for them to upgrade that to bluray. I've had Onibaba sitting on my amazon wishlist for quite some time, I just don't like buying DVDs if there's a good chance they'll be upgraded.

I just looked at the DVD sales to see if anything else was on sale there, and see that they have Sisters, Carnival of Souls, The Blob, When Horror Came to Shochiku, and Haxan discounted as well. I'm not sure why the bluray of The Blob isn't on sale, but that's probably a good thing since I might have bought it otherwise. I am going to buy Carnival of Souls, though. That one seems like a less-likely candidate for bluray release given the public domain status and the fact it was a zero budget movie shot in academy ratio. :P

Vampyr is also listed as a sale item, yet is 33 dollars!! I bought it for 20 during the Barnes and Noble sale, I'm not sure what the story is there.

I still need to upgrade my old DVD of Kuroneko. I'm sure that the haunting black-and-white visuals will carry over to high definition quite beautifully.

I really want Criterion to release a Blu-ray edition of Onibaba. That's my favorite of the older Japanese horror films, and it has one of the best uses of location setting in horror cinema.

I finished the last film in Friday the 13th: The Complete Collection yesterday, and am about to start watching the films in A Nightmare on Elm Street Collection this afternoon. Later this week, I plan to watch my second-printing copy of Eraserhead. On Halloween night, I plan to watch The Vanishing.

Incidentally, A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) stars Ronee Blakley as Nancy's mom. Blakley also starred as a country singer in Robert Altman's Nashville.

Kuroneko is a good film. The visuals are pretty haunting and the story is interesting enough.

That whole set of horror Criterion titles on sale is good, and I've got all of them except ANTICHRIST, which didn't seem so much like a horror film and I'm not a huge Von Trier fan although I can appreciate certain aspects of many of his films, so I may or may not decide to order it. My favorites in the sale list would be CRONOS, HOUSE, and ISLAND OF THE LOST SOULS, followed closely by THE UNINVITED and GODZILLA.

I finally got through the entire "When Horror Came to Shochiku" DVD set this past week, and it would be great to see that upgraded to Blu-ray, even if they all do look pretty good for just DVDs, especially THE LIVING SKELETON and GENOCIDE (which I think are also the best two films of the set, with GOKE, BODY SNATCHER FROM HELL also very good, and THE X FROM OUTER SPACE a fun piece of late 60s kaiju fluff thrown in for entertaining contrast to the rest). Anyone into Japanese horror needs this set, even if it is only on DVD. Though there are no bonus features, there are very good liner notes on each title (which should not be read until AFTER watching the films).

I'll add on to the Kuroneko discussion by stating that I think it is a solid film. The film works well in terms of revenge and I think the atmosphere is established early on as one that is very mystifying and foreboding.

I do not think I enjoy it as much as everyone else, though, as I find the acting to be a bit too over the top.

Pretty much squandered my first of four free weeks to Hulu Plus. Only watched one film so far. Anyway, plan to rectify that during the next three.

Is there some online resource somewhere that shows all of the Criterion offerings on Hulu Plus, besides Hulu Plus (unless there is something well buried over there (their "menu" leaves a bit to be desired))? Or better yet, perhaps a list of what's only on Hulu Plus, and not available on disc yet?

Need to get rolling...

I have never seen Cronos or The Devil's Backbone and am thinking of picking both up during the BN sale next month. Is there any film that they would be comparable with?
