Hope they fix the darkness on the after image, but incredible work fixing the damage.

It doesn’t seem too dark to me. It seems as it ought to be.

I saw it on DVD last year. To say the film was in disrepair would be an understatement. I’m halfway through The Stranger, which is in the Eclipse set. Good film so far!

Is anyone else lukewarm towards The Leopard? I really enjoyed Burt Lancaster's performance and I think the cinematography and scenery were drop dead gorgeous, but I was a bit bored and underwhelmed by the entire thing.

I'm willing to give it another chance because I'm not sure if I was exactly "feeling" it last night when I watched it. Still, films dealing with the aristocracy are not typically my thing.

I tend to get a bit bored of period style films, I mean Tess was incredible in everyway but I found it hard to connect with the story, I want to re try it as I loved everything else about it.

I loved the Leopard, as you said the set sand costume are divine and just incredible to watch. The performances and cinematography are top notch too! I did get a bit bored by the story - but I watched when I was tired anyway and not in real mood.

I have no regrets buying The Leopard or Tess cause they are spectacular films, I just have hard to engaging with period films (no idea why because I love everything about period films if that makes any sense haha!).

Does anyone know if Alain Delon's lines were dubbed? For the English and Italian versions?

As for your question, I felt it was a bit long. But the cinematography and art direction were worth the time. I didn't care too much for the story. But the main reasons why I bought it are because Alain Delon is in it, and because it's in Martin Scorsese's Top 10.

Yeah, I feel similar to you about Tess, as well.

The period dramas in The Criterion Collection seem to be very well made, but the stories have a tendency to make or break the film for me.

The dubbing is honestly remarkable in the film. It is very hard to tell when dub is used and not used, as they are almost all in-sync.

I, too, noticed that Martin Scorsese has high regards for the film. In fact, it seems to me that a lot of individuals praise it, which is why I am also a bit skeptical about my reactions towards it.

You could try The Criterion Collection or movie money trading threads.

I would no doubt recommend them to others because they are incredible, Tess does have a long run time, which never bothers me but it can be a bit daunting/off putting if it isn't your favourite genre etc.

But the cinematography, acting, direction, costumes etc make it truly worth seeing.

Tess contains some truly beautiful scenes.

I can't really fault Tess and even if the story doesn't grab me, or keep me gripped it doesn't make it a bad film, other may love the story and really connect with it. I just wish I knew what it was about period films that I struggle with, as I said I love everything else about them haha

Does anyone really love Autumn Sonata? It's such simple set up but the acting is phenomenal and makes the film so powerful and complex. I would say it has to be one of my favourite Bergman films. I never see it mentioned around here sadly - it's usually Persona or Fanny and Alexander (which are superb).

I just think this film is incredible - just been watching parts of it and I feel all the emotion and pain.

I haven't seen Cries and Whispers but seen trailer and stuff - how good is it compared to Autumn Sonata? Is there a decent bluray available from any country or would be worth waiting and hoping for an upgrade?

I only ask as by the trailer I do see a lot of similarities with Autumn Sonata, but I may be wrong.

People seriously need this film in their collection though. I'd say it is a MUST.

Finishing the night of Antichrist, can't think of anything better!

I mean, was his dialogue dubbed by an Italian and English speaking actor, or is it actually Delon speaking in Italian and English?

To me, 'Tess' brings thoughts of the chaos of nature and the nature of human beings. Tess herself doesn't necessarily choose or deny anything that comes her way.

You can count me in for Autumn Sonata. This film could only be done by Bergman and it is so great. Two people in a room talking is at its most riveting here. The CC blu-ray also has a real gem of a supplement in the fly-on-the-wall style documentary.

I borrowed a copy of My Darling Clementine and watched it for the first time a few days ago. Except for The Searchers, which is one of my favorite movies, I've always been bored with John Ford films. But I LOVED My Darling Clementine. I just wish it had a better title.

::EDIT::
I also think the racism in the beginning should have been addressed in some way later in the film. It seemed gratuitous.

My Darling Clementine is arguably my favorite western (the only contender would be Lonesome Dove). It's exquisitely photographed and Henry Fonda is perfectly cast.

I'm probably in the minority but I'd say it's Ford's best film. Might have to dodge a few tomatoes on that one as it wasn't even his cut, but just my opinion.

I get a kick out of how closely Jack Lemmon resembles him!

The cinematography in this film is perfection; the smoke billowing out of every corner, the things happening in the background. I am going to sink my teeth into this new blu-ray transfer tonight, I bet it looks gorgeous.

Giant is my personal favorite, although there is no denying how great of a film My Darling Clementine is.
