Can anyone tell me what this pic is from. I think I remember seeing it, just hasn't crossed my mind:

Apparently Toy Story 3 went retro.

This looks like a younger Keaton (silent days), so I wouldn't say Twilight Zone. Thanks for the help though.

Watched Mystery Train last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. The scene where Buscemi drops the liquor bottle in the motel lobby is hilarious. I love how Cinque Lee "cleans up" the glass. Meanwhile, Screaming Jay sits there, cool as ever.

It doesn't look familiar to me as far as being from one of his films. Are you sure it's not just a photo of Keaton at home? It looks to me to be from around the time of College, or perhaps even from the early 30s. He looks fairly young here, but this is definitely not from his short film days... or from his depressed, alcoholic days.

+1

Actually, Chaplin is my least favorite of the big 3 - Keaton, then Harold Lloyd, then Chaplin.

Well, we can't win them all...but, tbh, I'm pretty sick of teams building bandbox stadiums that I could homer out of...Im looking at you Philly and NYY...

Pierrot le Fou and just recently The Man Who Fell To Earth. I ordered both from Amazon the day they announced they were going OOP.

I feel like Lloyd was the best of the three at making pure comedies with the widest appeal. When I watch Chaplin, I feel like the Grinch with my heart growing three sizes. When I watch Keaton, I can't get over his physical feats and cleverness. When I watch Lloyd, I can't stop smiling and laughing. They're all great in their own way, which, I guess, is why they're known as the three geniuses.

I have the Region 2 MK2 boxset, the Chaplin Revue disc, the BFI editions of the Essanay and Mutual shorts, and the Image DVDs of The Circus and City Lights.

It will be interesting to see how Criterion presents these. The framing between the original Image releases and the MK2s has been a hot debate. The Image releases tried to present the films as close as possible to the way they were originally released while the MK2s provided us with Chaplin's most recent edited versions. Image Entertainments City Lights also included a recent (circe 1990s) re-recording of the original score, conducted by Carl Davis, which I think is a great touch. It sounds exactly like the original only with much-improved sonics. It would be great if Criterion could include both soundtracks.
Yeah...I've got the Image Essanay/Mutual shorts...it's a great collection...I hope that whomever owns the rights to them, will eventually release them on blu-ray. Everything that I have of Chaplin released after that is the WB/MK2 releases.

I'm definitely Chaplin first and Keaton second. I've got The General (Kino) and Steamboat Bill Jr. on preorder (Kino).

I guess that would make Murnau third.

Has anyone heard anything about Harold Lloyd on BD?

Not a thing. I would think it's not out of the question, but I'm not holding my breath. If it ever happens, I think it will be a long wait. At least the DVD set that is out now is of good quality.

Lloyd took very good care of his films, so excellent prints and/or camera negatives are available for basically everything he ever did with the "Glasses Character." Blu-rays would look fantastic!

In that scene from "The Kid", where Charlie is reunited with Jackie Coogan and he is lauding him with hugs and kisses...if that doesn't cause you to choke up...then you have no heart at all.

A favorite film of mine...the best of the Jarmusch films IMHO. I'll be watching my BD copy of it tonight...if the Mets will ever win this friggin' game!

Not to mention the endings to The Circus and, especially, City Lights! I also find his short films The Tramp and Sunnyside (and to a lesser extent The Vagabond) to be absolute tearjerkers.

That is what I am thinking. That photo just looks so fun that I would love to see a short of that. But thinking it's just a photo, but an awesome photo. Thanks.
