Yes, but most of my experience of the coupon being scanned does not work in favor for the consumer. Yet, somehow, magically, if the the code is entered manually, the coupon somehow magically works. Why is this the case? Who knows! All I know is that scanning the barcode means most of the time the coupon is invalid yet when I had that same csr input it manually, it worked. Was it magic? I doubt it.

In my opinion, the message from B&N is: don't use coupons cause we're going to make sure you don't get any more savings than the 50% off, because well, that's enough and we'll go out of business otherwise if you get more discounts. So accept it and be a well behaved consumer.

Actually it looks like the prices are all already adjusted. At least for the blu rays.

Yep, prices seem to be active, at least on the few things I checked. Five months into my membership they sent me my first 20% off coupon, so I used it on the Tati set after reading the write-up on The Dissolve, and Ebert's Great Movies essay on Mr Hulot's Holiday. I think I might only get "The Innocents" and preorder "L'Avventura" otherwise for this sale, not much else interesting has come out since July imo...maybe "My Darling Clementine," and I'm not sure if I really ENJOYED "the Vanishing" enough to ever rewatch the darn thing. It's certainly a great thriller, but even watching it a few years ago seems like it might have been enough for a lifetime!!

I was fortunate to see Fellini's 8˝ at a local theater this past spring. This was one of the rare instances when I was accompanied by friends to a theater, and the presence of others enhanced the experience, because I connected with the humorous sequences more than I might have otherwise. It really is a wonderful movie on so many levels.

If you like Barbara Steele, then I enthusiastically recommend the Kino Blu-ray of Black Sunday (1960), because it's her most notable role, and it's a fantastic horror film on its own terms. Barbara Steele also has a prominent role in The Pit and the Pendulum (1961), which is my favorite of the Poe adaptations in the first Vincent Price box set from Scream Factory. Steele is also featured in Roger Corman's Piranha (1978), and, although she is older in that film, she has lost none of her edgy elegance.

Hi you all have been wonderful at your suggestions so I was hoping to maybe get some more for this sale. So far my favorite movies have been In the Mood for Love, Vivre sa Vie, Revanche, and Blue & Red (not so much white). As you can see I am a fan of, for the most part, darker nontraditional love stories. Are there any other films in the collection similar to these?
In addition, I was planning on picking up Close-up, Certified Copy, and maybe Naked. Thoughts?

Default What about online discount codes?

I'm ordering from the UK and always get done over with shipping/tax. Anyone kind enough to pass on some online codes to ease the sting?

That hasn't been my experience. I've always used coupons during sales -- even the 50% off sales -- and everything gets discounted exactly as it should.

You want to trade Barnes and Nobles?

Because the B&N's in the Los Angeles area are a b-i-t-c-h to get them to use coupons. When a B&N employee allows me to use a coupon I feel like I won the lottery.

If anyone in the Los Angeles area has had a different experience than mine PLEASE feel free to chime in.

It's safe to predict that you most likely won't be disappointed if you buy the Criterion blu - can't go wrong with that one.

I live in France, and this is why I'm only buying one single film this time around. Anyway, the shipping for me isn't that much higher than what it would be during a Criterion flash sale.

I'm curious, does anyone here ever have a guilt complex about buying classic Janus touchstones and what not, as in if you buy a blu-ray of 8 1/2 or L'Eclisse, you think to yourself, "Hmm, should I be buying something truly rare or at least more esoteric like a late Godard or something? Should I stretch myself instead?"

Naked. It's soulcrushing and dark, although not really a love story. Louise and Johnny are ex-lovers, and let's not get into Johnny and Sophie's "relationship."

Welp, I've just placed 4 orders. Two orders (8 releases) are supposedly shipping tomorrow. Another order of 2 releases will ship out on the 13th, and finally, the last order of 3 releases will be shipped the 19th. Let's see if customs is gonna make me wait a month or so this time. They might not because the dollar's down, and the last time I ordered something, it came through within a week. So much for free trade, eh?

Do both! We're at the stage now where the "touchstones" are intermingling with some films I've never seen or even heard of, with the Hellman set and Sundays And Cybele just two recent examples of films which I feel have expanded my own filmic scope in new ways. Cohen are doing a good job of releasing more obscure fare too, especially regarding the pantheon directors like Godard (their For Ever Mozart disc is gorgeous), as are Masters Of Cinema, whose I Clowns made for a nice counterpart to Criterion's own La dolce vita last month.

The B+N chat has distracted from the fact that the 15th falls on a Saturday this month. My thoughts are with those closest to Polaroid at what must be a very difficult time for them.

Well as for more off the beaten path fare, Criterion led me to A Nos Amours, Dillinger Is Dead, and Les Rendez-Vous d'Anna, so there's that. There are plenty of others of course that Criterion has nothing to do with to begin with.
