It's a divisive film. It polarizes a lot of people. It's very politically driven so if you're fascinated or into documentaries on the counter culture movement of the 1960s, you'd love this film. If you're not into politics, documentaries or 1960s counter-culture, you probably should avoid this movie altogether. Personally, I didn't love it or hate it and found it more fascinating than boring. It's a really "different" kind of movie experience but if you have the patience to watch something like this and curious about the content, I'd blind-buy it.

Hausu is a lot of fun with an audience.

City Lights
All that Heaven Allows

I have no idea for the fifth title. Suggestions? I love when you guys suggest things, always leads me down an interesting road.
I recommend Quadrophenia. One of the best coming of age and counter culture films. Fantastic soundtrack if I may add.

I was just about to turn 18 when the '68 Democratic Convention took place and I remember the news coverage of it so It sounds like I'd enjoy it. Thanks.

I'm not much of a "haul" photo guy, but i do like seeing how people display their collections. Since I got to B&N today and completed things (at least for now), I thought I would share. If that doesn't interest you, feel free to skip this post!

Nice pictures. I alphabetize my foreignfilms by the second word as I consider "La" and "Le", for example, as "The".

I'm getting ten titles. This is my shortlist:

F for Fake
The Shooting/Ride in the Whirlwind
La dolce vita
The Freshman
Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion
My Darling Clementine
The Innocents
The Rules of the Game
Judex
The Seventh Seal
Pickpocket
Insomnia
City Lights
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Charade

Waiting on my wife's input before I put the order in, though I am leaning towards the first ten titles.

For this B&N sale, I really only have my eyes on L'avventura. I still have a handful of releases that I haven't even watched yet. If I somehow do find a way to get another film, I'll probably go with Diabolique, Charulata, or Naked.

Light sale for me. I'm going to pick up My Darling Clementine and one other title, probably Design for Living this week (I have two 20% coupons that expire on the 16th). I'll also pick up It Happened One Night when it comes out. Very psyched for that one.

That's it, though. I hit the last sale pretty hard as well as the recent Foxconnect sale, and I've got a slew of upcoming KLSC and TT titles on the horizon as well.

I picked up the Jaques Demy box set, & Antonioni's La Notte & L'Eclisse. Just waiting for L'Avventura to come out on the 25th & I'll grab that as well with Red Desert.

F For Fake is almost a lock for us. Could see most of the others being interchangable though. (My Darling Clementine is probably the next most 'locked').

I suspect my wife will rule out Picnic at Hanging Rock. Maybe Insomnia too.

I'm thinking of them in terms of the rewatchability and which ones I personally have enjoyed the most out of the fifteen you have listed.

I have seen F for Fake twice now and I do not find anything special about it. Welles does take a unique approach to forgery and how gullible people have a tendency to be, yes, but I find it to be a rather uninteresting and boring film overall. I hate Harold Lloyd and his comedy style hence why I do not recommend The Freshman. Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion is a pretty cool little movie. It's neat to see how far a person will go to see if they will or will not be accused or investigated in a crime. I like the film, but I do not see myself ever wanting to rewatch it. Judex is a fun, pulpish kind of film, but that's all it is for me. Nothing less, nothing more. Regarding Pickpocket, I enjoy the concept more than anything. Bresson's directing is undeniably impressive and the idea of how difficult it is to break the cycle of crime is interesting, but it does nothing for me.

The decision is ultimately yours, but that's just my two cents.

You should not rule out Insomnia or Picnic at Hanging Rock because they are two excellent films and the latter is one of my all-time personal favorites. Incredibly haunting!

Good lord, I cannot remember the last time I read something I disagreed with more. How can anyone hate Harold Lloyd? He's funny as hell, and probably my favorite silent comedian....and I absolutely love Buster and Charlie. Harold is the "everyman" of silent comedy.

I understand to each their own, and opinions vary, but there are times when your diss on certain films and not recommending them to others is an incredible head scratcher.

Well, to each his own. In fact, some of the praise that various individuals around here give to certain films leaves me scratching my head, as well. Still, everyone is entitled to their opinions.

I don't get Harold Lloyd, either. I love Charlie Chaplin and can appreciate Buster Keaton, and I've liked a ton of non-comedy silent movies, but Safety Last just leaves me cold. I can appreciate the impressiveness of the stunts but I just don't find it funny or involving.

Well we loved Safety Last, so The Freshman is very much on the table.

Similarly we loved A Man Escaped, so we are interested in Pickpocket.

I'm not ruling out Insomnia or PaHR, I think my wife will. Which is not to say we'll never get them, I just think they will be her bottom two picks of the 15. Because we haven't kept up to date with Criterion releases for a little while, we have quite a lot fo great stuff to choose from.
