I just saw Il Sorpasso after having it on my dvr for a couple months.

[Show spoiler]That ending.. wow. Definitely did not see that one coming.

Overall, I liked it. I don't know if I feel the need to own it, but it was definitely enjoyable and would recommend it.

I saw it in May for the first time and I LOVED it. It's become one of my favourite movies.
I purchased the BLuray afterwards and saw it again on August 15th.

Default My Criterion Collection as of Nov 2014

Well, here's a photo of my extensive Criterion Collection.

I'm up to around 197 Criterion titles now (Blu and DVD).

I'm nearly done watching the Pierre Etaix box set I have so I forgot to put that back in the display cabinet. Also at the very bottom shelf I have Walkabout and Summer Hours out of order/set aside because I'm about to mail them in to Criterion for replacement discs.

I'm using solid steel shelves (BD-392) from Boltz.com if anyone is interested. They are not cheap but I like how they're designed plus I couldn't find anything I liked at IKEA anyway.

If anyone likes my setup (categorized alphabetically of course), please comment! Thanks.

it is a decent film, but yes, the soap opera feel is in line with other Bollywood fare. ...and the subplot about the creepy uncle (If I am remembering it correctly) is silly, unnecessary, and goes nowhere.

all in on Ray, though!!

Eh... I like to keep it all alphabetically, and it doesn't matter if they're digipacks or standard cases or DVDs from BDs... ha... I like them all alphabetized... Actually I like the different heights! Adds dimension to everything! Yes, its not uniform or consistent but its all 100% Criterion and that's what matters.

All other movies I have on a duplicate steel shelf adjacent to my Criterion shelf as you can see. So that's where I separate BDs from DVDs.

Nah, different heights don't bother me. Being a little rough around the edges gives a collection a bit of character in my opinion. Think an old LP or book collection. You don't want your collection to look like a Barnes and Noble store shelf. That would just be cold and sterile. You want it to be personal and a little homey, or at least I think so.

Ha..thanks. I feel the neon green carpet from the early 80s is already a big hit with me on this forum. Maybe I should put some of that neon green carpet somewhere in my avatar so I can really be original. Ha.

Oh, I forgot to mention if you look at the bottom closely you'll see my ancient oil painting I painted when I was 9 years old and totally inspired by Bob Ross and his "happy little trees". The snow on the mountains came out blue though which I wasn't exactly planning on.

Yes, and it makes me feel just a bit less OCD too! That's the most important part.

Now we can all comb through your collection, see what's missing, and tell you what you need to buy at the sale!

Late Spring, La Dolce Vita, Fanny and Alexander, and Harakiri.

Thanks... Definitely buying La Dolce Vita..not too crazy about Fanny and Alexander. Prob. will pick up Late Spring at some point. Not too sure about Harakiri though (I'm not a huge fan of the Japanese samurai films in general, but I do own Seven Samurai which is essential).

Two films that are essential to anyone's collection are 8 1/2 and The Rules of the Game. Both I'm going to purchase during this sale.

Harakiri is more of an anti-samurai film, if that helps.

(But then, I *am* a huge fan of Japanese samurai films.)

Yup, what The Searchers is to westerns, Harakiri is to samurai films.

Haha fair enough, but I love my nice straight line of films haha! plus the digipaks have thicker width so stick out a little too compared to plastic cases!

Maybe I will be daring one day and mix it up and have the different heights!? God I am crazy! lol

BUT LOOK HOW NEAT AND TIDY!

Only a portion of my collection :P!

Nows a great time, you get a BEAUTIFUL, well thought out leaflet to go with the film, to treasure and keep for years to come. A lot of thought went into the leaflet so please, treasure it an keep it close to your heart.

Har har har... Well, you shouldn't have told me about the leaflet because I'm super OCD when it comes to booklets, leaflets, posters, slips, etc. I go bonkers if I see my fingerprints on the paper. Arghhhhh! But anyway, I'll just imagine its a beautiful leaflet when I open up the case to La Dolce Vita and pop the disc into my Sony Region A blu-ray player. Ha ha.

Polaroid: it might be neat and tidy but check out that inefficient waste of space in between each shelf! I mean, holy moly, I could almost make a shelf out of that non-utilized space... well, at least half a shelf. You see how close my DVDs hit to the top of each shelf on my cabinet? I mean, we're talking millimeters here. Now THAT is what I efficiency!
