I bought 3 new Criterions today at the B&N sale..my first haul of the November sale. I won't be taking photos anymore though...too much effort.

I used a 20% coupon plus a $5 off $50 or more coupon to get it down to a total of $48.xx with tax.

Here they are:

The Vanishing ($12.96)
The Innocents ($16.21)
Macbeth ($16.20)

I will be posting a picture of my final haul in December most likely.

Bergman was a frequent hater.

On Antonioni - “Fellini, Kurosawa, and Bunuel move in the same field as Tarkovsky. Antonioni was on his way, but expired, suffocated by his own tediousness.”

On Welles - “For me he’s just a hoax. It’s empty. It’s not interesting. It’s dead. Citizen Kane, which I have a copy of — is all the critics’ darling, always at the top of every poll taken, but I think it’s a total bore. Above all, the performances are worthless. The amount of respect that movie’s got is absolutely unbelievable.”

Personally I'd take any of those guys over Bergman.
You could find just as much hate from Welles and Godard.

Bringing up what a director said about another director when making a decision on what to purchase is pretty much pointless. It ultimately boils down to an argument that's often irrelevant to the subject at hand (such as this one.) An artist's taste has no bearing on the quality of their work.

And something tells me Bergman, especially at the time of that statement, wasn't alone on Antonioni. But that's for another discussion.

If the Instagram user was telling the truth, we should see a re-release of The Man Who Fell to Earth being announced tomorrow.

I have a feeling that we will also be getting Burroughs: The Movie and Fellini Satyricon.

I still have doubts about those StudioCanal releases. Those pictures could have just been for the Criterion Designs book.

Watership Down? An animated film not directed by Wes Anderson will get the Criterion treatment? Incredible!

Someone already informed me of that, but I'm referring to DVD/Blu-rays under the revamped spine numbering.

At some point during 2015, I want Criterion to catch me off-guard with something totally rare and unexpected that has never been released before, or that has only received a very limited distribution on home video in North America. For example, the complete 130 minute version of James Whale's Journey's End (1930), or Zoltan Korda's masterful adaptation of Hemingway's The Macomber Affair (1947), or John Ford's under-appreciated Tobacco Road (1941), which has only been available here as part of the massive Ford at Fox DVD box set.

Next week, I'll buy It Happened One Night for at least the sixth time (Beta, VHS, LaserDisc, DVD single, DVD box set, and now the blu-ray) ... and don't get me wrong, I'll smile as I walk out of the store with it! ... but I'm really, really in the mood for "something completely different" for a change!

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance just popped into my head for some reason.

That would be a nice surprise tomorrow. Or later today, I guess.

That's a Paramount title under license to Warner..doubt that Criterion will ever get their hands on it...

Oh, I didn't know it was part of the Warner deal.

I wonder where the hell it is then. Maybe Warner will announce it tomorrow. Or later today.

Yeah, I've been on the fence about importing it. It's a lot like Remains of the Day...I want it and the imports are probably more than adequate but I haven't been able to find much info about them.

And don't even get me started on the Japanese Columbo set

I've always thought Pink Floyd The Wall would make a good criterion. They done the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, so why not Pink Floyd.
