I mean, I'm starting to pick and choose which films I feel are a good fit in my life, and not just collection. As I'm a collector, a few friends of mine wonder why I purchase so many films. I'm starting to realize that "more does not mean better". I've always believed in the less is more approach. And though I have all of Nicolas Roeg's other Criterion releases (including the out of print Man Who Fell to Earth blu-ray), I need to re-think and realize that I don't have to own every film this director has made. It might be an OCD thing but not every film from a good director is really that good.

I just think the ending to Don't Look Now is so unrealistic and pathetic especially when

[Show spoiler]the murderer who is a gnome woman is half as tall as Donald Sutherland's character and somehow manages to cut his neck off at his height. I mean does she magically get 3 feet taller at the end to do that?! Ridiculous!

Yet somehow I found the ending to be incredibly weak, silly and ridiculous in all respect. I won't say a word about the ending though.

I realize it is one of Roeg's stronger pictures but it was just a silly film after I walked out of the theater. Maybe for back then it was really scary but today I could only feel cynical and disenchanted with the "atmospheric horror" in the film. I'm not sure I'd buy this if it ever came out on Criterion.
