I'm both happy that Criterion will release Watership Down and let down that they weren't able to get the rights to ALL the bonus features, including the audio commentary from the Australia DVD release.

Problem is I won't be able to wait until July this time. Too many essentials so far...

HOLY ****! DON'T LOOK NOW AND WATERSHIP DOWN!
The first one isn't that surprising but still…I'm just hoping it's a big improvement in terms of video quality compared to the dreadful Optimum release. The special features look terrific and they even managed to interview Julie Christie!
That being said, I seriously hate the cover. Why couldn't they just go with the iconic and terrific original poster?
As for Watership Down, now that was surprising. As much as I love the movie I kind of prefer The Plague Dogs though. Hopefully that's not too far away. Thank god they went with the original poster. Too bad they couldn't include all the special features from the WB special edition.

Saw, Bang The Drums slowly. Very well done. Pretty interesting to see Paul Newman stumble on one of his lines at the end. Even the greats are fallible on live teleplays.
That was what made live TV exciting. I wish there were more of it like there was in the past.

Newman retired from acting (aside from a few voice overs) after he became ill and felt that he could no longer remember lines and perform as well as he once did. He probably was over-critical of himself since in most movies, you can practically get away with knowing only one line at a time. In "The Godfather", Brando's lines were frequently taped to other actor's heads.

I saw "A Walk In the Woods", a play about the Soviet-U.S. SALT talks with Alec Guinness and Edward Herrmann at a theatre in London in the early 90s. Although this was well into its run, Guinness forgot his lines and had to walk off the stage and compose himself. Once he came back, he was fine and the actors received a standing ovation at the end. But that was his last stage appearance.

Im not sure if I like.

I do like this one:

I like the typography and the colours - just remove that annoying quote lol

Or used this image some how (they use for the announcement image though):

Would have been nice if Watership Down had Plague Dogs as a second feature, I've never seen and would have been awesome

But there's a compilation of outtakes which runs more than double the film's running time...so I guess that justifies the full price tag.

Chances of Criterion adding a third film from South Korea to their entire catalog next year: Zero.

Not seen Criterion handle cartoon animated films so be a nice surprise I guess
Obviously it will look better than this, but given the short timeframe I'm guessing it used the same master:

I'm probably down for the Renoir film as well, in addition to Don't Look Now and An Autumn Afternoon.

That's three titles that quicken my pulse this month. A good thing.
