Does anyone think that Criterion will ever release "Gummo?" I really hope so considering no one else probably will.

Anthology of work by the Brothers Quay. Really like their animation. The visuals are always creative, and their films often make cinematic sense even when you can't follow a story or a character. They'd fit in the collection perfectly.

For Criterion consideration:

Jonathan Demme and Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense.

I watched this over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. Given Criterion's existing relationship with both Demme (Something Wild) and Taking Heads front-man David Byrne (The Last Emperor), I think there's potential for a dynamite edition, especially with regards to the video quality, which could benefit from a considerate restoration.

I agree that it would be nice if the video could be improved, but the sound is already top notch!

Agreed. And while they're at it, they should also try to get True Stories.

I can officially say that The War Room is one of the best documentaries to be made.

I watched it tonight as part of my viewing of the few remaining unwatched titles that I have and I was really floored by how educational and informative it was. I really love how the focus is on the behind-the-scenes portion of the campaign process as it is perhaps the most critical aspect to winning and losing.

Highly recommended!

People spoke about Fantastic Planet which I really want, looking at the MoC version however.
I could almost see them doing something trashy with odd historical import like Fritz the Cat or Allegro Non Troppo. Fantastic Planet is a more logical one, of course.

Plague Dogs would be a big deal, obviously...hopefully if Watership Down sells really well they'll consider it. It is definitely WAYYYYY more niche but it's a companion piece and is one of those movies a small audience has been clamoring for a good release of for decades.

I think "when the wind blows" would have been a good candidate, but Twilight Time already picked it up, which is probably for the best. They actually got good extras for it.

Other stuff that would actually fit in the Criterion collection mostly already has been released, ex Persepolis. Triplets of Belleville might be a good one.

My dark horse nominee would be Don Hertzfeldt's "It's Such a Beautiful Day." It's incredibly rough around the edges, both visually (he did it entirely himself, hand-drawn) and emotionally, but it has power I can't say I've ever experienced from another animated movie, besides "Grave of the Fireflies" or maybe that opening to "Up." It's a really stunning movie and has some moments of transcendence which you'd never have expected from the same guy who did "The Refused."

I would be over the moon for a Criterion Gummo release. Endlessly quotable that one. I'm also of the mind that no other studio would release it.

I'd rather see Julian Donkey Boy because Werner Herzog acts in it. That's the highlight of Harmony Korine's career, getting Herzog in a film.

I didn't notice that Renoir! I want it, but full price for a 40 minute feature seems a bit much.

It comes with a feature length documentary on it too, so technically its two movies!
I'm looking really forward to Dont Look Now, that cover art is amazing!

I just read on some other forum that the leaflets could be because of the change back to separate releases, i really don't remember but apparently when they decided to release the Dual format editions they mentioned something about booklets being concern when ordering more DVDs.

Wouldn't it be possible to use blu-ray sized booklets on dvds?

If we are paying full price we have every right to complain - DVD collectors complained about increased price and they got their own way in the end.

Surely we can complain as we are getting less for our money in a way - pretty stupid, I hate DVD collectors now.

I'm fairly sure the scales Criterion operates on are significantly greater than that of MoC, Arrow, BFI etc. Why then do they have so much of dithering with regards to dual format when these others do it without any problems? Even the major studios these days offer dual format. I personally think they should stick to a uniform price point and offer dual format (in sensibly sized blu-ray cases, not the ridculous book packaging). I remember CC DVD's when they were at 40$ MRP. In fact when CC launched blu-rays both formats were priced the same (and CC even made a big deal of it, saying that whatever your choice, price would not be the deciding factor), so why did they go down the foolish route of making a price difference when they were offering essentially the same package?

And yes, folded leaflets in lieu of booklets are a big no-no for me.

Angel's Egg would be great, although I don't think they would relase any anime ever!

Those would be awesome to have especially Gandahar which never had a DVD release except in bootlegs and needs a US blu-ray.

Since Watership Down was announced, i can't wait to sell my old DVD and been a long time favorite.

How about this one?

Who wants this in it's director's cut? could use the restoration special edition treatment you know and extras galore.

How about also Ralph Bakshi's Fritz the Cat and American Pop getting SE from Criterion? or what about Pink Floyd The Wall, Felidae, Plague Dogs, Bagi The Monster of Mighty Nature by Tezuka, Perfect Blue etc.?

I wonder when and how the transition to Blu-ray only format is going to happen? Are they going to sell out the produced Dual format copies and smoothly exchange them for Blu-ray or maintain Dual format for the already released titles? Is there going to be an announcement for each title?
