But that ending! Really? That ending also blew your mind? I thought it was really disappointing and silly and not terrifying.

Wasn't The Deer Hunter a proposed hint from '14 New Year's drawing?

I think Don't Look Now might fall into Wicker Man/Picnic at Hanging Rock territory...to varying degrees I found all three disappointing not necessarily because of anything to do with the films themselves but because I didn't get what the 'horror classic' chatter led me to expect.

I'm planning on picking up Don't Look Now again primarily because I want to see what it really looks like. I have a feeling this is going to be one of those night-and-day releases where it's like watching a completely different film.

But I would have undoubtedly given it another look at some point anyway.

I personally did not see it coming until after I thought back on the entire film and all the events leading up to the climax. So yes, for me, it blew my mind and terrified me (something I cannot say about too many endings).

The deer you are referring to was more than likely for the Blu-Ray upgrade of All that Heaven Allows

I think of the top of my head the most shocking film end for me was Dancer in the Dark.

Probably others out there but can't think off the top off my head >.<

That clue was from a year ago now - is tehre absolutely nothing that it might also apply to?

The theme of sickness is in All that Jazz, for one; is there anything about that film, Fosse, or Scheider that would call to mind rat imagery?

The path that Dancer in the Dark took was rather shocking, yes, but I did not find anything about the ending to be surprising.

I'm going to have to avoid this thread until after February. Seems like everyone is trying to indirectly spoil the ending of Don't Look Now.
[Show spoiler]See how easy that was?

It surprised me when
[Show spoiler]they actually showed her fall, you'd think after that journey Lars would have been kind to us and not shown us, be he went there :P (although Selma did warn su with the 'next to last song').

Are we honestly supposed to be surprised by anything that Lars von Trier does?

It was a musical, he lured me into a false sense of security

The only thing I see that would make them more valuable are some of the unique digipack designs.

I'm wondering if digipaks in general are going by the wayside. I cannot find any copies of Foreign Correspondent as a digipak, nor Night of the Hunter. Also noticed that The Leopard now has a clear case instead of digipak.

Is there a list anywhere of all digipak BD releases?

Well, even as a wee lad, the awkward deus ex machina ending freaked me out, almost as much as Donald Sutherland's hair! I also think my teen infatuation with Julie Christie might have started with this film!

The film Safe also has the theme of sickness.

Maybe not now. But if you saw the film in 2000/2001 like I did the ending was surprising and shocking. Same for Breaking the Waves and Dogville. These three films are his jewels, IMO. Nothing he has done since has equaled them.

The two films from recent times that made my jaw drop at their endings were American History X and Oldboy (the original).

Oldboy! :-)

A Tale of Two Sisters is another Asian film worth checking out, I found it really sad and emotional and has a few twist that on first viewing you don't expect :-).

Same with I Saw the Devil (same director I think), I adore the final minutes of that film, so emotional and powerful, yet so simple.

I returned them in mid-October (not sure of the exact date). Maybe the turn around is a little quicker now that they have the replacement discs on hand.
