I have ordered 7 times from Criterion.com. Every time they email me with a UPS tracking number and it arrives a few days later. For my June pre-orders, it was supposed to come in 2 separate shipments. I got an order conformation email from them saying my order was being processed 6 days ago for Night Train, Close Up, Mystery Train, and Red Desert. No shipping email, and under my orders on Criterion's website, they only have a conformation number and no tracking number.
Usually I get the movies a day or so before they are released, but now it's a day after, and I still don't have them. I wonder if Criterion made a goof this time. |

Coincidentally, I have Darling arriving from Netflix today. Billy Liar drove me crazy, too - if only because I couldn't fathom turning down an offer from a 22-year-old Julie Christie!

I picked up the criterions that went OOP as well and have only gotten to Kind hearts and Coronets out of the ones I didn't already own. 10/10 easy, a must own, brilliant dark comedy.
since I saw someone didn't like it above, I want to say I truly enjoyed Billy Liar. I believe the main character is played by TOm Courtney but whoever it is is brilliant. I saw this some time back when the Filmspotting podcast did a maration of british films from that era... Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner was quite good but for me Billy Liar was even better. |

i'm gonna answer my OWN question from a few pages (yes i'm prideful like that
![]() is Man Who Fell to Earth worth owning? i borrowed the DVD from my local library and zipped around in it (skipped) and it looks completely different from Walkabout. this has dialogue/characterization story, is more lean, etc. based on that, i bought 2 copies of it before it goes OOP. in fact, it makes me want to investigate Walkabout again. it is, indeed, interesting how a director of 2 films can make very separate entities of what they appear to be. oh and the DVD case actually COMES with the Man Who Fell to Earth BOOK itself! pretty amazing, hahah. i'm also borrowing the same titles that Criterion has/will be releasing on Blu-Ray to check the movie content itself (lest i get burned, i haven't yet). |

Received my copies of Red Desert & Close Up which I had pre-ordered from Amazon with Prime for $27.99 each and to my surprise Close Up was a DVD! So I checked my order and sure enough looks like I pre-ordered the wrong version. Looked it up on Amazon & it is now $36!!! So I called Amazon customer support about returning my DVD copy & reordering as a blu-ray for the original pre-order price. No luck on that but they did give me a $5 off coupon to reorder...

I would definitely recommend doing this as well. I sent them an e-mail a couple of days ago due to the same issue noted by you guys (I received an order processed e-mail, but no shipping e-mail for the "Night Train to Munich" DVD). However, in my circumstance, I noticed criterion's site had "Night Train to Munich" with a June 22nd release date, when amazon and other sites reported it being released on June 29th.
Today I got an e-mail back confirming that the release date was on the 29th, but they told me they would ship it earlier than usual due to the typo (it ended up shipping this afternoon). And to thank me for locating the typo on their site, I was also forwarded a $10 gift certificate. I love criterion's customer service. I would have just been happy with an e-mail reply, but they went above and beyond to make me a happy customer. |

Over on the CriterionCast site, they did an article about the "Videodrome/Seven Samurai" artwork on Amazon. The listed it as going up today. I left them a comment about it being up since at least the 11th, when it showed up here, and also the off-and-on debate whether they were legit. Here's their reply:
"Good to know! I love blu-ray.com as well. The final images for these covers were officially sent, and I'm pretty secure in thinking they're official. I've heard that we'll get a final, official release of the Thin Red Line artwork next week. I cannot wait to see what we get for Antichrist, and I have to assume that we'll get artwork for the Darjeeling Limited, similar to the other Wes Anderson titles in the Criterion Collection. " So, it seems they could be possibly legit and not just photoshop jobs. Either way, just excited to have both movies on Blu, no matter the cover. Here's a link to that article in case anyone's curious: http://criterioncast.com/2010/06/23/...ai+Blu-ray%27s |

Regarding CriterionCast a little,
I am putting myself out there and saying I believe that the New Hollywood Boxset is true. Reading back, CriterionCast leaked it before the rumor on CriterionForum went out. Then the poster ianungstad on CriterionForum (who says to have connections to a person who works at Criterion, and believes to have been right about past rumored titles) said Criterion were surprised that CriterionCast was able to leak the info about the New Hollywood Boxset. If a November release is true or not, we will find out in August for sure. I just can't wait to see if this is true. Not only could it be huge for Criterion going forward, but it is prob my most awaited release (confirmed or not). The only thing I still have a hard time seeing, is a 7 film Blu-ray boxset. There hasn't been anything close to this from Criterion yet. Of course, they have to start sometime on something this big, and I can't see Criterion releasing something with Easy Rider in it being dvd only. |

I thought this was pretty obvious from the beginning. Websites like amazon.com don't post photoshop covers as placeholders. If they have a pre-release without legit cover art available they'll either use a previous releases art work, a poster, or leave it blank. And thedigitalbits.com posted the art work (sourcing amazon.com, true), but I don't see them doing that without checking their sources. Besides, we know Seven Samurai is coming, and there's no reason for it to have a cover any different than the current DVD and the Blu-ray cover from amazon.com.

Sorry for posting this here...but it's not getting recognized where I first posted it.
For NetFlix subs that are streaming films... I'm considering a purchase of a Roku box. My only problem is, that the Roku box does not have an audio option for digital coax (only optical/TOS link). I've got (2) optical inputs on the back of my Yamaha receiver, one for DTV/cable and the other for CD. I've got my DirecTV receiver using the DTV/cable optical currently and an upconverting DVD using the digital coax. If I use the CD digital/optical connection...will I still get DD 5.1 or just stereo? Thanks! |
