Yes it was sealed.

See here's some "Red Harrings" about it:

*sealed in that flimsy kind of plastic not the hard kind

*no director approved sticker on the front

*top of case was cracked under the plastic wrap. But this was the only copy they had

*booklet looked a tad "worn"

That's what the employee said on the phone when I called today and ordered another one and told him what happened.

I used my membership discount on this purchase so there should be a record.
Plus I just want the same damn movie. Lol

What I'm wondering now is, if it's a machine that places the discs in the cases and it gets stuck once in a while, do some people get two discs?

Dunno. I have the Scooby Doo DVD set that came in the plastic replica of the Mystery Machine, and Disc 4 is repeated twice, but the label says one of them is actually disc 5. Tried to go back to Best Buy (with a laptop computer to demonstrate the problem) as I was told that it was purchased there (I got it as a gift from someone and they didn't have the receipt, because, IT WAS A CHRISTMAS PRESENT) and Best Buy told me I was SOL because I didn't have a receipt and they couldn't look up the purchase information for me to exchange the faulty set.

Was anyone else disappointed that Watership Down didn't qualify for B&N's sale? I guess it's probably always been this way for pre-orders. It's the first Criterion in some time that I must own.

Yeah, pre-orders are never eligible for the sale, you'll just have to wait and pick it up at the next sale in July.

No matter how long a sale goes on, there will always be something you want coming out just after the sale is over. That's life.

Thanks for the info, shadedpain and ravenus. You've helped make my mind up: 'Kagemusha' will be my next Criterion buy

Speaking of Kurosawa, I picked up a couple of books from the thrift store today that might be of interest to the Criterion fans here: 'Something Like an Autobiography' by Kurosawa, and a combo book of 'The 39 Steps' and its sequel, 'Greenmantle', by John Buchan. Has anyone read the Kurosawa book?

The Shooting/Ride in the Whirlwind was a release I never cared for when announced. I ended up picking it up during the sale after doing some research and reading up on it. It looked interesting and I'm glad I picked it up. I just watched The Shooting and loved it. I don't know if it was Warren Oats but it had a Badlands feel to it (without the voiceovers). Can't wait to watch Ride The Whirlwind next.

Email the studio directly.

Years ago, when I had the Friday the 13th DVD collection (Yes, I'm a Friday the 13th fan, and I've decided not to run from my feelings anymore.), the special features on The Final Chapter disc did not function. I had purchased this set from a used store that was no longer in business when I got around to checking out the special features, so I thought that I was out of luck. I decided, however, to email Paramount directly, and ask for a replacement disc. About six weeks later, Paramount sent me a brand-spanking new disc of The Final Chapter enclosed in a disc sleeve.

My Blu-ray of Love Streams arrived in the mail today. (I'm keeping it real by mentioning something Criterion-related.)
