another Truffaut title on the way from Twilight Time!

watched My Darling Clementine last night and really enjoyed it! when the "The End" title card popped up, I felt that there were some plot points that could have maybe been addressed.. or that is, I would have liked to have seen them be explained. 5 minutes of reflection, however and I figured that they were just fine not having been explained. that's usually what happens in instances like that.

great acting! such an easy and pleasant watch, but deep enough to warrant multiple viewings. great release!

Saw All that Heaven Allows yesteday. (1st time on Bluray, and 4th time I think overall).
This is indeed a visual masterpiece!
I love the whole aesthetics and I strongly suggest it to everyone!
How wonderful colors, music, direction, shots..
And the Criterion Bluray is stellar!

This has become a December tradition for me..

I wonder, could anyone recommend similar movies (not by Sirk)?
i mean romantic classic colored melodramas of that era which are visually stunning?

Default Truffaut on Twilight Time

I hope that Criterion will release more Trufaut titles. I am wearing out the titles I have!

Cul-De-Sac arrived in the mail today from Barnes & Noble. Woo hoo!

Shock Waves also arrived in the mail, though, and I've got more of a hankering to watch it tonight.

My new work schedule (10-hour days Monday through Thursday with Fridays and weekends off) is an influence on my weeknight viewing choices these days. I'm a bit more mentally laid-back when I get home from the 10-hour days, so I usually prefer to watch the "popcorn" movies that do not require a lot of analysis. The Criterions will usually wait until the glorious three-day weekends.

Did you pick up The Long Goodbye? Interested to hear your thoughts. I still stand by my thought that you would love 3 Women but atleast you're giving Altman another chance.

The good news is that The Long Goodbye arrived in the mail last week.

The bad news is that I've decided that I want to read the Raymond Chandler novel first. The novel also arrived in the mail last week.

Okay...that's actually not bad news. It's pretty good news all around.

I would really recommend the film first, as it is not at all like the novel. You might be thinking about things they changed instead of enjoying the film if you do it the other way. If you like Sterling Hayden, his best performance is in The Long Goodbye, and the scene with him and his wife while Marlowe is out on the beach... (WOW). Altman really got the best out of him.

Sterling Hayden is great. I love his work in Crime Wave, Suddenly, The Killing, The Asphalt Jungle, and, of course, The Godfather.

I would actually love for Criterion to release Venom (1981) as an offbeat selection, simply because of Sterling Hayden, Oliver Reed, Sarah Miles, and Klaus Kinski. Venom is probably more along the lines of Scream, Factory, Kino, Synapse, Scorpion Releasing, or some other like-minded company, though. Such an underrated classic...

I agree 3 Women may be my favorite Altman film. I usually watch it ever summer. Outstanding performances maybe think about grabbing it during the Barnes 40% off BLU sale next week.

When Criterion started releasing BLUs this was one of my wish list titles.

How to ask this without making a fool of myself in front of everyone? Hmmm ... okay, I know how to phrase it:

Of course I know what BIOT is ... but you see, this friend of mine ... well, actually, it's the friend of a friend of mine ... she has no idea what BIOT is, and since she's too embarrassed to ask you herself, I said I'd ask for her.

So, for her sake, what is it? I'd tell her, but she said she'd rather hear it from you.

I agree, Hayden is great. Owl, check out one of his more unusual films-Terror in a Texas Town. It is so bizarre but fascinating at the same time. I think there is (was?) a dvd available. The soundtrack sounds likes they couldn't afford a real trumpet so somebody swiped their kids toy one and used it instead. Just adds to the weirdness.

I believe he refers to this: http://stores.ebay.com/blowitoutaher...p2047675.l2563. They have a Criterion sale right now.
