I see MoC is soon going to be releasing one of my favorite films-Stanley Donen's Two For the Road. Hopefully, Criterion, Fox or someone will be releasing it here soon.

There are even other themes that it dwells on, but its up to the viewer to see. The soundtrack is phenomenal. I would rank it as one of the best soundtracks in a movie ever. So, Criterion if your reading, please release this amazing film on Blu-ray!
Agreed on all counts! When I first heard that opening music, I was blown away. I wish there were more movies like this in the collection...or just in general!

Comeon, Criterion! Release this on BD!

There's some good Fellini on there too - Il Bidone, I Clowns, City of Women.
But get the French BD of City of Women, looks much better, IMO (& Dr. Svet's if you wan't a more credible opinion). I kept the UK one for the extras, but the films the thing. I haven't watched my MOC copy of Faust yet, but I loved the movie, so could recommend that too, asuming the BD is of the usual quality.
PS, did they release Clowns too? Mine is on Raro. I can vouch for the Raro, how is the MOC in comparison?

I own them all but have not watched every set yet.

My favorite:

Followed by these (in no particular order):

I have not watched the Early Fassbinder set or When Horror Came to Shochiku, but I am sure these will also become favorites when I get around to them. I still have about 14 to watch.

I think the Eclipse series has some of the best films in the Criterion Collection.

Hey, I found an actual "official" Eclipse Series thread on this forum! There are only 3 pages of postings dating back to 2012 though on there (pro-bassoonist started it then)... maybe its time we take this recent emphasis on Eclipse and start filling up that thread!

Chantal Akerman in the Seventies is my favorite. But there are so many great sets. Any of the Japanese film sets, Dusan Makavejev, William Klein, Larisa Shepitko, Aki Kaurismäki, Czech New Wave, Fassbinder...

I saw ace in the hole and night porter at friends house the other night.

Ace in the hole was good not great though. I loved the whole media and spin machine/sensationalizing aspect but I was expecting more. Billy Wilder name maybe I was expecting too much compared to his resume?

The Night porter didn't do it for me. I know the Stockholm syndrome etc. I just didn't get the love affair though. The flashbacks were well done, great musical score also, but not worthy of upgrade imo..

Day of Wrath, which is included in the box set, is worthy of all the superlatives that critics have been throwing at it for over 70 years: it is indeed a "disturbing", "haunting", "revelatory", "harrowing" masterpiece.
Thank you! I have the Vampyr Criterion dvd and love it. really hoping for an upgrade.

Bought Eraserhead- I have yet to watch the disc.
I read there is an issue with the first pressing of the disc?
I checked my copy and sure enough it states first pressing on the box.
I contacted Criterion twice about a replacement and I do not get a response.

Anyone know if they have fixed this issue and how to go about get a replacement?

Thanks

Check the actual disc, not the box. The disc will say Second Printing. And yes, the discs have been fixed and many replacements have gone out to customers, including myself. There is more information in the dedicated Eraserhead thread.

Seven Days in May would make for an excellent Criterion release.

Any idea who controls it? I hope it's not WB or we may never get it on blu.

Thanks!
I broke the seal wrap and checked the actual disc and sure enough it is stamped as second pressing.
So, Criterion must be using old boxes.
(mine didn't have a "second pressing" sticker on it)

Glad I do not have to go through the replacement process again...as I just received my replacements for Criterion discs that rotted out.

Did a search for 49th Parallel and this was one of the results:

Sifox211, may I ask where this information derives from? The Tales of Hoffmann is officially announced. What about 49th Parallel (and while I'm at it: A Matter of Life and Death)? Thanks for any input.

Fans of Wes Anderson and The Grand Budapest Hotel (future Criterion title of 2017 or 2018!) should be happy cause it just received FOUR Golden Globes for best picture, (comedy/musical) director, (his first ever!) screenplay, and actor (Ralph Fiennes).

Hopefully this means lots of Oscar nominations come Oscar morning. His movies otherwise haven't received much Oscar love: The Royal Tenenbaums (original screenplay) Fantastic Mr. Fox (animated feature, original score) and Moonrise Kingdom (original screenplay). All noms no wins.

Kind of amazing none of his movies have been nominated for production design or costume design, but TGBH should finally change that.

49th Parallel is already released in France, but there is no review so not sure if it is a new restoration, you can see the screenshots at blubeaver.

Also the Tales of Hoffman is unfortunately OOP from CC, not sure who has them for now.

I’ve seen exactly 2 films from all of the Eclipse box sets and that was 2 of the Satyajit Ray movies from Late Ray. I enjoyed both of those movies more than I thought I would. I’d dip into more of the Eclipse stuff, but I wouldn’t really know where to begin. I am not familiar with some of the directors and some of the ones who I am familiar with (e.g. Ozu, obviously,) I still have to catch up on his more popular work. Never enough time to relax and watch a great film!

I've always been put off by Eclipse sets just due to the fact they are only DVD (but i understand the reasoning behind it).

I might get them eventually as there are some incredible pieces of cinema included in a lot of them - but tbh if I can find any on Bluray in UK or other country i'd get that over the set.

Most of my Eclipse purchases come at the end of a B&N sale when I've already gotten what I planned on buying, but end up with a 25% or 30% coupon unused. 4-5 films for $16 or so is hard to beat.

My favorites are the obvious Japanese ones:
Late Ozu
Postwar Kurosawa
Mizoguchi's Fallen Women

As well as:
Travels With Hiroshi Shimizu
and Misaki Kobayashi Against The System

I watched Lilting the other night and I think it would be a good candidate for the Collection. Has anyone else seen this film?
